Wait.....................a vacuum? The interview was in German. I believe the word vacuum is a slight translation error. Venturi lift pumps work much like a vacuum and when they malfunction they suck air instead of fuel. Vapor lock caused by the lift pump.

Vapor lock is an entirely different word. meh............. the end result may be correct but I'd really like to have an RB engineer as the source.

I agree, but we know the chances of that happening are zip.

My nagging suspicion here is it's a known that the car is overweight and as part of the effort to even get where they are they left off something important.
Newey does have a history of tight packaging and heat related issues.

Newey does have a history of tight packaging and heat related issues. I saw a post post-race, no idea where now, that said the fuel was sloshing too much and wouldn't stay in the pick-up area due to the g-forces the cars are experiencing and that was what caused the cars to stop. We all know they figure that stuff as closely as possible to have 'just enough' at the end of the race so maybe a simple internal fuel tank rework or something else entirely.

This an interesting video from Sauber a few years back that explains some of the systems on the car, the fuel cell is in the middle section.
