IMHO we are not going to know which team truly has the quickest car for a couple of months, at least. Right now Ferrari looks like it has the most stable package. But we have no idea if it's actually quick. All the other teams are all over the place, trying all sorts of things. I'm thinking it's going to take longer than that, even the 2017 cars took a full season to exploit their regs, and that was with unrestricted budgets.

I want to know how all of these teams can run a design on a wind tunne where they have total control over wind flow and can try anything and a car doesn't porpoise. Yet the secone it hits the track it bounces like it is on a trampoline? That Merc was darn near undivable looking and will have be off the gas so early to sttle the car for turns it will be a send and a half off the pace. The 60% models are tested in rolling floor tunnels, if they drop the ride height down to where the car would actually run on the track it would damage the rolling belts. The CFD programs are also not sophisticated enough to model the air flow under the car at minimal ride height, they went into this partially blind. peter what's his name has a interview with Frank Dernie today. Talking about wind tunnel and CFD data. The CFD computers don't have enough smarts to figure in tire wakes. A interesting 2 minutes

Thanx for the link Carlo. Teds notebook or what ever he calls it is a good one. He mentioned 2 or 3 cars that don't look guick. I honestly don’t think even Ted knows what he’s seeing. The cars are all over the place. Kevin Magnussen said he set the best time today without even trying. RedBull said they were competitive without even trying. I don’t know what the hell is going on.

I'm seeing a lot of front brake lockup or simply not being able to stop which could be for multiple reasons. They probably don't have an understanding on how the levels of downforce drop off while in the braking zone but it also could be related to suspension settings used to deal with the porpoising. Whatever the reason some of the lockups have been glorious.

Don't forget that what you see on the Merc and even Red Bull is the result of the limits on their tunnel time last year. Their designs are still developing in a game of catch up with other teams.

^^ That was from a couple days back. Nothing but crickets from peter what's his name since then. :-) His golden boys car needs a bit of work.

Kinda think Merc might have bit their own asses on this one bringing two different cars to the two tests. Now they have to wait to the race to iron out their new problems. I wonder if the parts for the second car weren't ready in time for the first test.
