If you could see Verstappens onboard camera just after his quali crash you would see the next panel on the straight light up flashing green. Normally just like with flags they aren't activated.

Reality is that the only time space is mandated is in the braking zone. Corners are meant to be contested, it's racing. You don't have to give anybody anything.
