Bottas whining about how a two-stop strategy was the right approach today, neglecting the fact that he was passed by Perez who was also on a one-stop strategy. Perhaps he could have been ahead with two stops, but the point was that executing the one-stop strategy properly was as much the key as anything. The sub-text of what Bottas is saying is Merc needed two rounds in their gun just like RB had, they know he's not as adept at saving his tires a Hamilton is so he should have been put on a strategy that plays to his strenghts. But that would have put him in competition with lulu for the win, they didn't put their best foot forward.

Another telling point the homers totally missed or avoided. Merc ran with a high (relatively) down force setup. Saying it was faster than their low down force setup. the bulls ran with a low down force setup. This was also on the web before the race. so once they were behind and trying to pass the bulls, their speed advantage with the rear wing flats down was only a couple of mph instead of the usual 8 or 10 mph.

Where passing at the end of a straight is about the only passing opportunities on the track - low downforce gets one down the straights quicker and is the best defense against being passed. Where passing in the twisty bits can actually be accomplished - then higher downforce tends to be the better bullet. Neither is a absolute statement.

Bottas was close to Hammy for a long time today. I'd say Lewis has lost some speed and Merc better think long and hard about potential driver replacements.

The Brits are relentless homers. This is a true fact.

Personally, I did not find this race all that interesting. Fortunately there is a race next weekend too. And the weekend after that.

The Brits are relentless homers. This is a true fact. The truth of the matter is that for 7 years Merc has had a 1/2 second per lap advantage, or more. For prolly 80 to 90 percent of the races in those years. This year it's different. They have to think on their feet in real time to come up with strategies to give themselves a chance to win. They have little or no experience in doing that. They pulled it off in Spain a few races back. And failed for the past three races. We'll see what happens down the road.

Amidst all the groveling it's worth remembering nobody but Merc and RB has won a championship since 2010 2009. Button! It's a bit crazy to think Honda could take both titles and pull out of the sport.

I just can't with this track. It is completely soulless and is borderline seizure inducing. Maybe it's just the blue color, but they need to change something. Mercedes and HAM lost this race because VER>BOT. Merc not pitting BOT when PER got by to try for a fast lap is almost like a slap in the face. They had the delta to NOR with naptime to spare.
*I enjoyed this race, but for me it was Indylolz at Road America today

I am not surprised the engineers don't listen to the drivers because, as we know, they have so little impact. Again, the strategy was powerful if you could make it work. I agree that they could have split strategies, but if Lewis would have pitted before Max he cannot do a hotter in lap because he is behind Max and limited somewhat, and he would have entered behind Perez and that would have been an added barrier (Perez was no barrier for Max, of course; he let him straight through). If they would have pitted Lewis very early it might have worked for sure, but I still don't see how Merc passes RB on the track today. With equivalent hards they were not able to. And it would have been viewed as VERY early, having to make the mediums last longer than they had in the first stint (albeit with lower fuel loads). If not for the superior straight line speed of the RBs I don't know that Max would have gotten past Lewis with tires that were fresher than what Lewis would have had. Again, strategies work relative to what others are doing. Where you are on the leaderboard and track at the time you implement them. It worked for RB, barely, and a one-stop for RB probably would have worked as well. Honestly we all know Bottas never was going to win so they probably should have done the Perez strategy once Bottas was on hards and behind Lewis; have him slow down and save his tires. No one other than Perez was ever going to threaten him. Do you think Lewis would have passed Max on hards if both RB cars did one-stoppers? What you are writing is not connected to reality, entirely speculation and a complete waste of time. A one stop strategy the way Perez did it was never going to win the race. The best it would get someone was third.
Bottas was correct, he wasn't whining. A two stop strategy by one of the Mercedes cars very well could have won one of them the race. Mercedes screwed the pooch and if they had listened to Bottas he or Hamilton could have won the race. The end. Dude, after a race EVERYTHING is speculation! A two stop strategy by one of the Merc's could have won them the race. A one-stop strategy could have one them the race. It's all relative. I still don't see Merc winning the race with a two stop and I do not see RB losing with a one stop.

Tires are all over the place and it seems teams are struggling big time predicting them. Also they work differently for everone. A compound that is great for one team, it is crap for the other and it may reverse mid-race. Teams hate this, but I am loving it.
Max and RB made a ballsy move and it worked. Bottas saw this opportunity and asked his team to do the same but MB is still stuck on yesterday glory and default lapdog strategies for him.

A two stop strategy won, but if RB had stayed on a one stop would Lewis have passed him? No. So a one-stop strategy would have won, too. And if Lewis would have stopped again, when was he anticipating being brought in and what would have happened then as he almost certainly would come out behind Perez? My point is simple; strategies are relative. Max would have won anyway stopping once. I doubt if Hamilton stopped twice he would have been able to pass both Perez and Max if they had done a one stop. And once Max stopped there was no sense in doing a second stop for Hamilton. Bottas was never going to win no matter what. Execution. Relative strategies. These have an impact. Merc lost the race at the first pit stop.
