Porsche Is Being Investigated Over 'Engine Manipulation' Porsche Is Being Investigated Over "Engine Manipulation"Volkswagen's dieselgate scandal forced regulators worldwide to take a closer look at auto emissions, and now, Porsche is under the microscope. Again. Reuters reports that Germany's KBA is now looking into gas-powered engines developed by Porsche between 2008 and 2013 for potential "manipulation" to achieve better emissions test results. Porsche actually brought the issue to the KBA's attention, and said that it doesn't affect anything in production today. A German paper reported that the engines in question were used in the 911 and Panamera. LINK

16-year-old girl sets fastest slalom record in 2020 Porsche 718 SpyderThe Guinness World Record has declared 16-year-old Chloe Chambers, a seasoned kart driver with seven years of experience, as the new title holder for Fastest Vehicle Slalom. Beating out a previous record set in China in 2018, Chambers set a new benchmark pace, weaving through 51 equally-spaced cones in a lap time of 47.45secs. Chambers achieved this feat behind the wheel of a 2020 Porsche 718 Spyder, which was completely stock, right down to its tires. www.yahoo.com/news/16-old-girl-sets-fastest-000000586.html

The Porsche Taycan Outsold the 911, 718, and Panamera in the U.S. Last Quarter
The Porsche Taycan Outsold the 911, 718, and Panamera in the U.S. Last Quarter
Porsche's third-quarter U.S. sales report contained a surprising statistic: For the first time, the all-electric Taycan outsold the 911, 718, and Panamera. For now, it's the third-best-selling Porsche here, behind the company's Macan and Cayenne SUVs. It's too early to say whether this will last, though. In the second quarter, the 911 outsold the Taycan, 718, and Panamera combined. But sales rebounded across the industry in the third quarter, as the new normal set in. And if this pattern holds, it could be the first case of a traditional automaker's U.S. EV sales overtaking its more established products. www.roadandtrack.com/news/a34248351/porsche-third-quarter-2020-sales-figures/?source=nl&utm_source=nl_rdt&utm_medium=email&date=100320&utm_campaign=nl21646728&utm_term=AAA%20--%20High%20Minus%20Dormant%20and%2090%20Day%20Non%20Openers

Porsche Is Selling New Old Stock Crankcases for 1984-1998 911sIf you need a new crankcase for your late air-cooled 911, you can now order one from a dealer. If for whatever reason you need a new crankcase for your air-cooled Porsche 911, you need to go used. That can make full engine rebuilds tricky, but if you're working on a 911 engine made from 1984 to 1998, there are now a handful of new crankcases for sale. You'll just have to call up your local Porsche dealer soon if you want one. Porsche had a small stock of old crankcase blanks in storage, and its Classic department wanted to mill them into working components, but the original plans were illegible. So, they sat. But recently, Porsche Historic Motorsports began making new crankcases for the 962 Group C car—a fixture on the historic-racing scene—and someone realized that the 962 crankcase and the 911 crankcase were almost identical. The Historic Motorsports department shared its plans with the Classic department, and a local company got to work actually machining the old blanks. www.roadandtrack.com/news/a34251843/porsche-nos-crankcase-911/?source=nl&utm_source=nl_rdt&utm_medium=email&date=100320&utm_campaign=nl21646728&utm_term=AAA%20--%20High%20Minus%20Dormant%20and%2090%20Day%20Non%20Openers

Many Porsche people are thinking Porsche should get into short and long block crate engine sales for this era. Not many rebuildable air cooled engines left out there and prices have soared. They would make a fortune.

The 2021 Porsche 911 GT3 Is Coming With a 4.0L Flat-Six and a Six-Speed ManualPorsche is listening to enthusiast customers with the new 911 GT3, which features notable improvements over the standard 992.Porsche aficionados seem to love everything that comes out of Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, but that doesn't mean the company won't listen. And when we spent a few hours with Andreas Preuninger, who heads the development of the new 2021 Porsche 911 GT3, we got the feeling that he keenly listens to the customers. In fact, he is their best ally against those who would prefer to neuter the quintessential 911, to take it into the mainstream and make it more digestible. You can't really tell what the new GT3 will look like thanks to the cladding up front and in the rear. But our sources tell us it looks cleaner than ever, with a lower front air intake that resembles a jet engine. The rear wing is mounted at the top; it looks unusual, and it's said to provide an aerodynamic advantage over a conventionally mounted wing. www.roadandtrack.com/news/a34786901/2021-porsche-911-gt3-prototype-revealed/?source=nl&utm_source=nl_rdt&utm_medium=email&date=112620&utm_campaign=nl22141827&utm_term=AAA%20--%20High%20Minus%20Dormant%20and%2090%20Day%20Non%20Openers

How Ruf Automobile Turned Our Favorite Porsche 911 Into a Modern SupercarFew 911s shook Porsche tradition as did Yellowbird, the 1987 Ruf creation that spun its speedometer to 213 mph and cemented Ruf Automobile as the mastermind of aftermarket Porsche performance. Though “aftermarket” isn’t quite the term, since Ruf is a real marque, being accorded manufacturer status in Germany and assigning its own vehicle identification numbers (VINs) to bodies-in-white from Porsche. The German firm also waves its wand over customers’ “donor” Porsches—cars bearing Porsche VINs—with Ruf modifications made following their initial build at the Porsche factory. Just announced is a new program to produce the Ruf RCT Evo, a model evolved from their original 1990 RCT that was based on the then-new 964 platform, the successor to the 911 series that was made until 1989. The 964 was revolutionary in that it featured the first series-production all-wheel-drive model called the 911 Carrera 4, although it was also available as a Carrera 2 model featuring traditional rear-wheel drive. True confession: A 964 Carrera 2 that I bought new in 1991 was my best 911 of them all, combining the traditional shape, but with a fully uprated chassis and drivetrain. Light, nimble and quick for its time, it remains my favorite 911. As history would show us, the 964 saw no love after the 993 came along, and was all but forgotten by the time water-cooled 911s took over. Some would argue that it wasn’t until Southern California–based Singer Vehicle Design began scouring the earth for 964s that Porsche’s sleeper started to gain respect. www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/ruf-automobile-turns-favorite-porsche-130000880.html

Porsche unveils new 911 GT3 Cup modelPorsche pulled the virtual covers off its newest racing model, the 992-based 911 GT3 Cup car, during its annual Night of Champions ceremony. The 510hp machine will be used throughout the globe in the world-recognized training series, which makes its debut in 2021 with the new Porsche Carrera Cup North America series across March 16-17 at Sebring International Raceway. The German road-turned-race car is loaded with revisions, Porsche explains: “One of the most striking features of the new 911 GT3 Cup is its optimized aerodynamics and the overall more muscular appearance. This is partly thanks to the wide, turbo-spec lightweight body that is being used for the first time in the Cup car. Measuring a total of 74.9 inches (1,902 millimeters) in width, it exceeds the rear width of the previous model by 1.1-inch (28 millimeters) and is distinguished by its additional cooling air inlets in front of the wheels. “Furthermore, the front axle of the 992 generation of the 911 is also significantly broader. Thanks to additional flared fenders, the new 911 GT3 Cup race car now measures as much as 74.9 inches (1,920 millimeters) at the front axle. This allows for a harmonious wheel-tire combination with 12-inch-wide rims on the front and 13-inch wheels at the rear axle. This is typical for GT racing and has a positive effect on the handling and drivability of the racing car. At the same time, the seventh generation of the Cup racer generates noticeably more aerodynamic downforce. racer.com/2020/12/12/porsche-unveils-new-911-gt3-cup-model/

The 1967 Porsche 911 S Is an Enduring Triumph of EngineeringIn its day, this 1967 911 Super was the club racer’s choice. Today, it's an icon. Including Porsche’s 911 in our search for the greatest sports car of all time was a given. But which? There are scores of options from the 911’s 56-year run: air-cooled or water-cooled, turbocharged or atmospheric, exotic or gawky. Ultimately, we went old school. Short-wheelbase 911s are irresistible. In its day, this 1967 911 Super was the club racer’s choice, the sort you’d hammer at the track all weekend, then drive home. And while there are faster and more valuable long-hood 911s, we wanted something that wasn’t unobtanium when new. Brett Sloan of Connecticut air-cooled specialist Sloan Motors—look ’em up if you need a good drool—happened to have this recently restored Bahama Yellow, Italian-market specimen on consignment. The car’s gracious owner let us borrow it. www.roadandtrack.com/reviews/a35048894/1967-porsche-911-s-first-drive-review/?source=nl&utm_source=nl_rdt&utm_medium=email&date=122620&utm_campaign=nl22409003&utm_term=AAA%20--%20High%20Minus%20Dormant%20and%2090%20Day%20Non%20Openers

2021 Porsche 718 Boxster 25th Anniversary Model Has 394-HP Flat-SixThe Boxster 25 is based on the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0. It has copper wheels and a red interior and is limited to 1250 cars. The 2021 Porsche Boxster 25 commemorates the 25th anniversary of Porsche's mid-engine sports car, and it's powered by a 394-hp naturally aspirated flat-six. It's limited to 1250 units and has styling cues inspired by the Boxster concept that was shown at the 1993 Detroit auto show. The Boxster 25 is available to order now starting at $99,950 and will arrive in dealers in the spring. Porsche is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Boxster mid-engine sports car with a special edition based on the 2021 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, meaning there's a high-revving naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six on tap. The Boxster 25 is limited to 1250 cars and has styling touches reminiscent of the Boxster concept car (pictured below) that was revealed at the 1993 Detroit auto show. Like the original concept, which shared its face with the 996-generation 911, the Boxster 25 has copper trim on the front and side air intakes, badging, and wheels. The fuel cap is adorned with "Porsche" script and finished in an aluminum look, as is the standard sport exhaust system. The car comes in GT Silver, Jet Black, and Carrera White color choices, and they'll all look stunning paired with the five-spoke copper 20-inch wheels. The sport seats are trimmed in Bordeaux Red leather and complemented with a red fabric convertible top and a brushed aluminum interior. www.caranddriver.com/news/a35192447/2021-porsche-718-boxster-25th-anniversary-revealed/?source=nl&utm_source=nl_cdb&utm_medium=email&date=011421&utm_campaign=nl22523355
