1984 Porsche 911 Ruf RSR Bristles with PowerJoyriding in a classic, Ruf-modified, 700-plus-hp Porsche 911 before it goes up for sale at auction."Have you driven the new McLaren 720S?" asked Lance Butler before handing us the key to the Ruf-modified 1984 Porsche 911. "It's that kind of power only without the traction." His words are still fresh in our minds as we carefully merge onto westbound Interstate 10 in Los Angeles, pulling alongside a white showroom-fresh 911 GT3 RS. The Porsche gods are with us. We do the usual look over. Traffic is light. It's on. Feeling for traction, we roll into the throttle, find the carpet, and get our first real taste of the car's twin-turbo flat-six. Butler wasn't kidding. This thing is a beast. Gulping 11.6 psi of boost pressure, the air-cooled 3.8-liter flat-six goes off like a small nuclear device above 4000 rpm, revving quickly and pulling hard to 7000. Miraculously, the old 911's 17-inch Michelins find purchase and, to the surprise of Mr. GT3 RS, we stay with him through third gear and most of fourth. www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a35272742/1984-porsche-911-ruf-rsr-drive/?source=nl&utm_source=nl_cdb&utm_medium=email&date=012321&utm_campaign=nl22523381

It's funny. I like the original prototype better. If you are referring to the original Boxster, I am too. Yes, original Boxster.

Porsche issues stop sale order on used vehicles with Sport Chrono PackageEvery once in a while, automakers are forced to issue what's known as a stop sale on vehicles in their fleets or sitting on dealership sales floors and lots. It's usually either a safety- or emissions-related issue that causes the sales pause, and it's almost always for brand-new, never-before-sold cars and trucks. According to Business Insider, then, Porsche's current stop sale on vehicles equipped with its high-end Sport Chrono Package is rather odd. Not only is the stop sale issued for older cars, it spreads across the automaker's entire lineup. It includes certain 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne and Panamera models equipped with Sport Chrono built between 2012 and 2016. That's a huge range of highly disparate vehicles with wildly different powertrain setups. Apparently, in the most highly strung Sport Plus mode, some of these older Porsche models emit too much nitrogen oxide, which means they aren't legal to sell in the United States. We don't know how long this stop sale will remain in effect, but it's already been awhile since it was first issued in November 2020. A spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider that Porsche is "testing every model derivative" to figure out which of these cars is actually affected and will therefore need reprogramming. www.yahoo.com/autos/porsche-issues-stop-sale-order-164400024.html

Dang, I'da never thought that. It is a bit odd. Some think the main reason being there wasn't enough room to fit a proper double wishbone in the base narrow body cars and still maintain the tight turning radius 911s are famous for. With the introduction of the 992 model Porsche has eliminated the narrow body 911. They're all wide body cars now which allows room for the double wishbone. Most think all 911 models will go double wishbone in future generations.

How Lars Kern Beat the Porsche 918's Nurburgring Time in the New 911 GT3"I just arrived and was like, 'Oh f**k, that's good,'" Porsche factory driver Kern says of the new GT3.By this point, you've probably heard that the new 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 just set a blistering Nürburgring lap time: 6:55.2, faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder's time around the legendary track (if you're using the old 'Ring timing method). We got the chance to speak with the man who set that sub-seven-minute lap time, Porsche factory driver (and Nürburgring ace) Lars Kern, to find out exactly what went into that record-setting lap. "I drove the car for the first time from Weissach to the Nürburgring, and immediately felt on the Autobahn how responsive the front axle is," Kern tells Road & Track. "And to be honest, I was worried about the rear being able to follow. When we arrived [at the Nürburing], we took the car on normal Michelin Cup 2 tires, standard cambers, standard toe, everything standard, and it cornered like crazy, but the rear always followed." That suited Kern's preference for a stable rear end, and in testing, he says he was immediately confident with the car.
