Historic Le Mans Porsche Carrera for saleMay 15th 2020 A historic Porsche Carrera 3.0 RS is up for sale, with a backlog of incredible results from the biggest of stages to historic rallies.
This 1974 Carrera RS boasts a number of stand-out results since its creation, including podium finishes in its class at the Le Mans 24 Hours in consecutive years.
In 1976, Alain Cudini and Raymond Touroul piloted the Porsche to sixth overall at that year’s Le Mans and runner up in its class. The following summer, the line-up of Christian Gouttepifre, Philippe Malbran and Alain Leroux took the car to second in class and 10th overall.
One of just 55 examples built to the Carrera specification that met the homologation requirements, its success extended beyond the endurance scene, with rally pedigree to go alongside it.
Overall victory in the 1976 Rallye Automobile de Monte-Carlo was the first in several rally wins. Further victories at the Rallye Critérium des Cévennes, 6 Heures de Dakar & Tour de France Automobile makes this example better-travelled than most gap year students and a haul of trophies to match.
Between 1980 and 1983, the car took part in over 30 rally events, demonstrating its appeal and pedigree.
In 2012, the car was stripped back to its metal base and repainted in the original Grand Prix White colour. The machining and build of all mechanical components and a rebuild of the original engine to exact specification was completely photographed and documented.

After working with Mr. Kirby and his E Prod 914 I gained a real appreciation for the engineering of the Germans (although we used to joke that you can always tell a German, you just can't tell him much )and the mid-engine layout. I figure a 1st gen is all I'll ever be able to afford, since I'll have to have at least one more vehicle also ... After working with Mr. Kirby and his E Prod 914 I gained a real appreciation for the engineering of the Germans (although we used to joke that you can always tell a German, you just can't tell him much )and the mid-engine layout. I figure a 1st gen is all I'll ever be able to afford, since I'll have to have at least one more vehicle also ... Article seems accurate. Personally I would do all I could to buy a second generation 986, MY 2000+, Boxster S. Mileage doesn't matter that much, in fact regularly driven cars are usually better than garage queens. Look for one that has been driven regularly and well maintained. Also important is locating a good independent Porsche repair shop in your area. If you have one in mind shoot me a link to the listing and I will do what I can to assess it with you. How Porsche Is Changing the Brake Game With Tungsten CarbideRotors coated in tungsten carbide mean better performance, less wear, less brake dust, and no rust. On most modern cars, brake rotors are made from either cast iron or carbon ceramic materials. But Porsche has recently implemented another type of brake rotor that's set to revolutionize the industry, using a material called tungsten carbide. The brake rotors, which the company calls Porsche Surface Coated Brakes (or PSCB), are iron rotors that receive a layer of super-hot tungsten carbide applied to the contact surface at an extremely high rate of speed. The result is a 0.1-millimeter coating of wildly dense material. According to Porsche, the rotors last 30 percent longer than their iron counterparts, despite the thin layer of useful material. And that's not all. Because so little of the rotor actually wears throughout its service life, PSCBs produce around 90 percent less brake dust, according to Road & Track contributor Jason Fenske. The tungsten carbide coating also allows the rotors to maintain cooler temperatures after repeated hard stops. The PSCBs are meant to fall in between Porsche's basic cast-iron systems and its full-blown carbon ceramic systems in terms of price and performance. Just trolling, but you do know they sell 911s? I do, but I've been enamored of the mid engine layout since working on Bob Kirby's E Prod 914 in the early 90s. Besides, all else being equal, the mid engine car has to be better handling than the rear engine car, so say the laws of physics (note that all F1, Indycars and GTPs are mid engine, not rear). Porsche must have been taking great pains all these years to keep the 911 a step ahead of the Boxster, given the Boxster's inherently superior layout. Blasphemous? Perhaps. I don't care!

This Man Turned a Porsche Boxster Into a Sixties F1 CarIt may be made of mostly Porsche components, but it's got a tube-frame chassis, an open-wheel design, and pushrod suspension.It's hard to have a conversation about modern Formula 1 without people reminiscing about the good ol' days, when the sport was less predictable, more exciting, and incredibly dangerous. Not content to simply dream of the glory days, Wesley Kagan decided to build his own golden-era F1 car. As he details in a new video on his YouTube channel, Kagan was inspired by the engineering and design of Sixties F1 cars. Specifically, he was motivated by Jim Clark's Lotus 49, an iconic piece of motorsports history. He didn't want to build a replica, though, he wanted to make something his own. So he bought a trashed but running $2500 Porsche Boxster. Its flat-six was the perfect donor motor, with a low center of gravity and good power. He brought over the steering rack, transmission, and dozens of small parts from the Porsche, but fabricated his own tube-frame chassis. The end result was a narrow-body, custom-built car with pushrod suspension and exposed internals. According to his Reddit thread on the project, it weighs just 1091 pounds and will make 300 horsepower in its final state of tune. As he shows with his jerry-rigged PCV valve and improvised radiator fix in the video, it's not a totally sorted project, but it's a running, driving car that looks like nothing else. He even took it on public roads, which we probably would've advised against.
