I sensed a great deal of enthusiasm from the fans actually at the race - which is encouraging... Whether the good TV ratings reflect a renewed enthusiasm for the series is an open question, but it was nice to see...

Disliked that the end of Bahrain caused one to miss the start of Texas.

Even more, I disliked that my DVR was set (on DirecTV's channel programming screen) to record all of NBC's coverage of the Texas race, which was scheduled to start at 11 am MDT, and that brought us in at lap 32. Did NBC start earlier? Was this a NBC change, or did DirecTV screwup?

Good thing I was watching the pre race. 10 minutes in, I was like, what’s going on? This isn’t going to go over well.

Was this a NBC change, or did DirecTV screwup? I think that was an NBC thing, because it happened to me as well... I stopped my DVR and watched the first 32 laps on the Peacock replay... Then switched back to my DVR so I could fast forward the ads...

I’m going to predict the Alabama race received 950,000 viewers.

Compared to last year, these numbers aren’t terrible. It’s basically in the range of a typical race on NBC.

Wonder how Indy gp viewers they would have had if it were run on Sunday? “Only the 500 can be run on Sunday” is ridiculous. Considering how many traditions have been broken over the years this is the one they choose to keep in tacked?

I thought Indy was a good race but people don't tune in at the half way point because they heard there was a good race going on. Somehow they need to draw fans in and Grosjean and Johnson should have been able to help that even though neither were a factor in the race. Some of the drop still might have to do with post-Covid where people just want to get out and not sit inside and watch TV. I think the live crowd at the Speedway was good or at least what I seen was. Nascar needs to more concerned with their numbers especially with their TV deals expiring. They've tried a few gimmicks to draw new fans and I don't think it worked. They probably turned off more long time fans than gain new ones.

I would say Indycar and NASCAR need to be worried. Indycar better be, they just lost a million viewers year to year. Indycar is by far my favorite, but there is no excuse that does not make these numbers alarming.

I keep hearing NASCAR ratings are higher this year, yet the Big Race, Daytona has gone from 16.7m viewers to 4.8m in 8 years. Down from 7.3m last year. Down from 19.3m in 2006. I'm not excited about the direction all motorsports are going.
