There is a theory going around that many of the deals for next year and beyond will get done early this year rather than be prolonged to the last part of the season. Meaning a couple things, drivers need to impress now and not from the summer break onward and be aware that waiting to long for a deal could get you involved in some stone walling by teams if the driver contracts become subject to caps in the future. Things would change dramatically if Zak Brown gets his way and drivers are included in the budget cap.. www.gpfans.com/en/f1-news/64315/f1-must-rein-in-driver-salaries-to-level-playing-field-brown/

I think it makes sense, all of the teams will want to keep at least one driver around for next years spec change and like him or not Lulu is still getting the job done. Bottas needs to be let cut loose and Russel given a 3 year deal with a # 2 driver clause for the first year or 2.

The only thing I would say is no to a 3 year deal for Russel but instead a 2 year #2 driver contract to prove he can pick up the slack when needed and also block or control the pace when needed behind Lulu. Maybe a 2 year contract with the 3rd year being an option for Mercedes so they have Russel and he can move up if he's good enough. Yes I guess that would mean a bit more money in the first 2 years but worth it if he's a bust and can't turn up the wick when needed.

Bottas going back to Williams? That would be a bit tough to humble yourself but he's still young enough and he would likely be #1 there.

Herta will have to wait. It is too soon for Colton.

I hope Perez improves well enough this season to be renewed at Red Bull, he doesn't need to win just be a top notch wingman for Max.

These rumors are such BS. If Merc doesn't have a good handle on who Lewis is by now then they do not deserve to win.

I think Russell showed a good car is at least half the battle maybe pushing 75% or more but after that it takes skill and understanding in and with the car to bring it home for the win as much as Lulu has over the years. We all know driving a fricking beater at LeMans is useless with the average driver, but put the best driver in that same beater and it's better than alot of people could even think of doing, pair that best driver with the best car and you have a winning solution for as long as both can maintain it.

You think Lewis is the one doing the winning? Well it sure ain't Bottas Have you forgot what George Russell did in that car already? Replace Bottas the doormat with any number of competent drivers and they will win just as many races as Hamilton and Rosberg. The car is doing the winning.
