Perez doesn't bring much money and some of what he does bring is used not on the car but on his salary and some of those sponsor labels he wears go only to him, not the team. Perez is not even a synthetic diamond. You'd have to consume massive amounts of Patron to call him a championship caliber contender before passing out. Max is still not a threat to Hamilton for the championship with Perez and would do extremely well to equal the number of fingers on one of my hands in wins next year. That leaves 18 races for Hamilton to play with in a car that's better than anything RB has made lately. Unless there's a renaissance at Ferrari or a miracle at McLaren even with Perez RB will still be second in the team standings. They chose to abandon their young drivers while still paying all of them simply because it looks good not necessarily because it is good. FWIW I can see the driver pairings at McLaren and Ferrari being just as strong or stronger than a Verstappen/Perez pairing with only the equipment to separate them. I agree that Max isn't going to win the WDC but with Perez behind him they may keep Bottas off the podium enough times to win the WCC for Red Bull and that's worth alot more cash and standing than the WDC would bring to Red Bull in advertising. I'd end it all if my only future was to be a better Bottas.

You have to be better than someone and something, Russell proved that the car is at least a large part of the F1 podium and after that is where driver experience and ability can 'bring the car home' without literally 'driving the wheels off of it' and having to end the race early. Bottas has done that since he got to Mercedes, yes he's made his fair share and more of mistakes but his skills have brought a car home in the points that others would have given up on. Bottas is not a Lewis or a Max kind of driver but he's no slouch either and Perez will have his hands full in a car that only sometimes is good enough to beat the Mercedes. Bottas is also not a complainer on the radio like Lewis is saying 'this car is trash and we need to park it' when he has almost zero chance of finishing in the points. Albon proved the car can be very good but his experience level just isn't there yet to be able to bring it home often enough.

I'm an idiot. Did McLaren and Renault win races this year? I feel like no, but I'm not sure what is happening in this tweet.

I thinks it's trying to make a case that both Sainz and Danny left Red Bull or Toro Rosso cars that were capable of winning races because Red Bull. In Sainz's case it's a bit of a stretch to tie him to Gasly getting lucky but maybe Jacques figures he would have had the #2 at RB if he had stayed.
Anyway it's just a long line of RB driver academy peeps who left the home can.

How many of the top RB positions are considered 'open' each year. A large supply of drivers is available, there is very limited demand for drivers at top. You don't join the academy to settle for less than the top - get booted out maybe, but settle for the less than the top spot is not a option.

I was like this season was so freaking boring along with COVID my group chat would have lost their goddamn minds if either Mclaren (a LANDO WIN) or a Renault (Danny WIN) had actually happened. I even went to Wiki to be like BoringTAS, Hamboner+++, Max, Hamboner+++, crying Gasly, MCMercBoring++++, Checo/TracingPoint!!!!!!!, Max.

I keep thinking we need to start a new silly season thread but Sir Lewis hasn't brought his horse to water yet.

I hope Alex will be back in F1 with some more maturity and racing prowess under his belt, Max isn't going to stay at Red Bull forever and neither is Checko and if Red Bull wants to keep winning they need some good drivers. Alex showed skills but also not enough patience when needed or the ability to push hard when needed and sometimes took huge risks for small gains. His starts were also erratic for the F1 grid. I think all of that can be learned it just depends on how fast he can do it.

Any guess as to how long Mazepin lasts? He has backing so probably a bit, but I suspect Haas will rue they day they signed him.

Enough that if Mazepin has any success whatsoever he will be with Haas for the foreseeable future.

Haas is pimping out that team in hopes daddy will buy it. That could be a good thing if he continues to pump money into it.
