Now they need to put Alex in a simulator or a mule car with as much 2021/2022 stuff as possible and let him bang out a few hundred thousand laps at the different F1 circuits so he's ready if anyone has an issue. Alex has skills but like Max he needs time to refine them, unfortunately for RedBull to maximize Max's results they need someone who can be closer to Max now not next year or the year after or even the year after that and I hope Perez can do that.

Actually at the time it was changed to wimpy it was even before the pandemic shutdown and because RB and Max killed the buzz off early. Lest anyone think it's over Toto and Hammy are still unsigned and whatever happened to the end of November sell by date for Red Bull's engine freeze decision? As has become the custom RB will not be able to continue without it so what difference does having Perez or Albon matter for one year? Too much bad water under the bridge from Red Bull and Honda to make an early engine freeze a real thing, some of the wags think Liberty can use it as a carrot to coerce Horner into signing Perez but that's just a fever dream. Ah. I see it was a decision moved to mid December. Wait, that's today or thereabouts. Renault anyone?

^ Latest rumors have Perez signed with RB for one year in a last ditch, final year for Honda, effort to get some kind of championship. Albon as a reserve. Perez signing elsewhere for 2022 and beyond. Good luck. Putting your faith in Marko and Horner has always been rewarded.

You'd think with all the data they have on the Pirelli tires they could program in at least most of the tire degradation, graining etc into the simulators they use.

That's a good move by RB. Checo brings a lot more to the team than Albon. Hopefully they will be closer to MB next year and make the races better.

Marko the vampire has failed at his job. Somewhat surprised he still has a job. Surely he was against hiring Perez yet it happened.

So Horner runs the bulls. tost runs toro rosso or whatever they're called now days. Marco runs the young driver program. And Dietrich owns the whole lot. The question is when it comes to the perez who owns the deal? Diamonds don't come along to often. The vampire has found two in the past 13 years or so. Tost got himself two victories over the years including one this year. Horner has four titles to his credit. Then there's Dietrich. When the bean counters get done it prolly hasn't cost him a Euro to run the whole lot since he bought it for a dollar in what was it, 2006. Is Perez bringing his Mexican money with him? That may have been the deal maker.

Perez doesn't bring much money and some of what he does bring is used not on the car but on his salary and some of those sponsor labels he wears go only to him, not the team.
Perez is not even a synthetic diamond. You'd have to consume massive amounts of Patron to call him a championship caliber contender before passing out. Max is still not a threat to Hamilton for the championship with Perez and would do extremely well to equal the number of fingers on one of my hands in wins next year. That leaves 18 races for Hamilton to play with in a car that's better than anything RB has made lately. Unless there's a renaissance at Ferrari or a miracle at McLaren even with Perez RB will still be second in the team standings. They chose to abandon their young drivers while still paying all of them simply because it looks good not necessarily because it is good.
FWIW I can see the driver pairings at McLaren and Ferrari being just as strong or stronger than a Verstappen/Perez pairing with only the equipment to separate them.

Technically papa Dietzs only owns about half, the team is owned by Red Bull GmbH co owned by Mateschitz and Chalerm Yoovidhya, heir to the man responsible for the original Thai marketed beverage. The Evil One is the adviser to the parent company and all around blood sucker. Perez was brought in to secure Honda's best chance of some kind of title before they throw RB to the wolves, i fully expect to see Albon or Gasly back in the 2022 car.

I agree that Max isn't going to win the WDC but with Perez behind him they may keep Bottas off the podium enough times to win the WCC for Red Bull and that's worth alot more cash and standing than the WDC would bring to Red Bull in advertising.
