Mat Oxley VR says the 3 v slow turns followed by 6-gear straights makes this track the “worst configuration” for Yamaha
Neil Brown How bad is it, if they exit a turn behind with the slipstream down the straight surely they’re not getting gapped
Mat Oxley The Yamaha is spinning on the exit, so it doesn't get the drive, so they lose the slipstream instantly, which isn't much use at low speeds anyway. Bt 4/5/6th gear the Ducatis and Hondas are gone Neil Brown I’m guessing the loss of drive is when the T/C cuts the power to control the spin, sounds like a lack of mechanical grip rather than electronics, Rossi not just sit his ass further back on corner exit 😂 or run long wheelbase

Pedrosa, Folger, Smith on KTM test list, but…
Peter McLaren10 Aug 2018
Dani Pedrosa, Jonas Folger and Bradley Smith in talks with KTM about test riding duties in MotoGP 2019 - but wild-cards set to end. Folger turned down KTM stand-in chance at Silverstone.
KTM initially thought its MotoGP test programme would be less important in 2019, when the factory will double its presence on the grid to four bikes with the addition of Tech3.
But recent injuries to test rider Mika Kallio and then racer Pol Espargaro have underlined both how valuable the development team is to the project - and how vulnerable the project can be without more than one replacement rider.
As such, KTM is now seeking a second test rider to join Kallio next season.
MotoGP racers such as Dani Pedrosa, Bradley Smith and Jonas Folger are all on the list, KTM Motorsport Director Pit Beirer confirmed.
However, the present incentive of multiple wild-card race appearances will end, Beirer explaining that KTM wants its 2019 test riders to focus purely on bike development.

2018 Austria MotoGP FP3 Result: Monsoon Marquez Zara Daniela on Sat, 2018-08-11
The premier class started their day with a damp track and the appointed favourites from Friday let their colleagues take over track drying duties at the start. Valentino Rossi did a great job of that to set himself up at the top of the timesheets after the first 15 minutes but the constant improvement in track conditions saw that benchmark quickly shattered by more or less familiar names, from Jorge Lorenzo to Xavier Simeon.
A few brave souls switched to slick soft tyres in the final 15 minutes, Jack Miller showing the way for the lot and was then joined by Rossi, Alvaro Bautista and soon many others. Once the Pramac rider found a rhythm on the slicks, he took over the lead of the session and awaited challengers.
Marc Marquez was in no hurry to show his hand and was only unleashed from the Honda garage in the final ten minutes on slick tyres. He shot into the top 8 on his first timed lap, then into the lead by lap three and stretched that advantage to 2.5 seconds one lap later. The reigning world champion of mixed conditions kept the lead to the flag and used the rest of the session to play cat and mouse with Andrea Dovizioso.
Bradley Smith got closest to the Repsol Honda’s benchmark, trailing the Spaniard by 1.7 seconds, with Scott Redding once again showing good speed in the wet to climb into third. Cal Crutchlow was over two seconds down on Marquez, closely followed by Tom Luthi, who seemed to enjoy the conditions. After his late heroics, Milled had to settle for sixth, with Dovizioso seventh, 2.5 seconds down on his archenemy.
Alex Rins, Hafizh Syahrin and Maverick Viñales completed the top ten as the final riders within three seconds of the world champion. Johann Zarco, Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi occupied positions 13 to 15, with Dani Pedrosa two places back.
Despite the constant improvements throughout the session, times were far from Friday’s best, so FP1 hierarchy still stood to determine the order for direct Q1 passage, leaving Rossi to fend off the sharks in Q1.

2018 Austria Moto2 FP3 Result: Gardner Makes It Stick Zara Daniela on Sat, 2018-08-11
Rain flags were back out as soon as the lights turned green at the end of pitlane and one man who was eager to see that was Remy Gardner, who once again shone in the difficult conditions and planted his flag at the top of the timesheets, claiming the territory for most of the session. With rain coming and going throughout the afternoon, the riders made the most of the dry patches in the final third of FP3 to advance on the timesheets.
Some red sector times finally appeared with three minutes left on the clock but Gardner did enough on only his fourth lap to keep top position by over eight tenths of a second. Iker Lecuona chased the championship leader to drag himself into second position but the good news ended there as the Spaniard had a moment in turn one soon after and ran into the back of the Portuguese rider, both looking disappointed but not harmed. Lecuona kept second on the timesheets, a tenth ahead of Marcel Schrotter. Oliveira missed out on the top three by only nine thousandths of a second.
Andrea Locatelli kept away from the drama and made steady progress in the late part of FP3 to edge ever closer to the top five, half a second quicker than Fabio Quartararo. Mattia Pasini, Joe Roberts and Lorenzo Baldassarri were the last men to post a time within two seconds of Gardner, while Sam Lowes completed the top ten.
Birthday boy Brad Binder was 15th, leading a select group including Alex Marquez, Pecco Bagnaia and Joan Mir in positions 16 to 18. Luca Marini was an early victim of the precarious conditions but rejoined the action to finish 19th, nearly three seconds down on the leader.

2018 Austria MotoGP FP4 Result: Marquez One Step Ahead Submitted by Zara Daniela on Sat, 2018-08-11 12:19
With the track still sporting some damp patches to begin with, the final practice session for the premier class was also their one opportunity for the day to find a race setup in the dry. Unlike FP3, Marc Marquez took no time to start putting in the laps on a soft rear tyre and riding around consistently in the 1:24s. The Spaniard took the lead and never let it go, with only Jorge Lorenzo getting in his comfort zone and the rest of the pack over seven tenths down halfway through FP4. Having comfortably set camp at the front, Marquez then went out on a hard front tyre more tolerant to his usual abuse but quickly returned to the more familiar medium.
Even Lorenzo trialled the hard front in the final five minutes and showed good pace in the few laps he posted on it. Previously, the Spaniard ran in the low 1:25s on used softs and dipped occasionally in the 1:24s to climb into second on the timesheets.
Teammate Andrea Dovizioso followed him closely, less than a tenth of a second back. The Italian looked a little happier than Marquez on the hard front and he used it to finally drop into the 1:24s. Andrea Iannone made a late jump into fourth position, half a second off the leader and closely followed by Cal Crutchlow. Both the Brit and Danilo Petrucci experimented on hards at both ends and finished in close proximity of each other, Crutchlow fifth and Petrucci sixth.
Alvaro Bautista added a fourth Ducati into the top seven, while Johann Zarco in eight was the lead Yamaha in the session. Dani Pedrosa finished seven tenths of a second down on his teammate in ninth, with Alex Rins completing the top ten.
The factory Yamahas continued to struggle, with Valentino Rossi 12th and teammate Maverick Viñales only digging his way out of 20th in the final couple of minutes of FP4, when he swapped to new mediums and snatched 13th.

Marquez: "With Dovi and Lorenzo I'll race with the title in mind": 93 warns: "I'll attack using my head, also because I'm championship leader and it's better to lose five points than twenty-five" "We’re on pole but it was all so very tight today. Of course I would like to win here and tomorrow I’ll start with that objective, but if it’s not possible, I’ll take points for the championship”

Dovi: “Normally you have to save the tyre, you have to save a little bit of fuel it’s a long race here because it’s quite short. This is the normal strategy but that doesn’t mean it will be like this.” Last weekend Dovizioso used a new frame, which helped him in Brno. After a further test on Monday there had been questions if he would continue to use the new frame for tomorrows race or revert back to the old one. “I use the old one. We decided during the test in Brno, but the difference is almost zero,” said Dovizioso. “There is small things for me and my riding style I decide that, but it didn’t affect us really, especially the speed. It’s more about other things.”

Pedrosa: “After yesterday and today’s rain, the track didn’t have much grip, and I didn’t have a good feeling with the rear. I hope the track conditions will improve tomorrow and that I’ll be able to start well and be fast from the beginning”
