Not sure what's more awkward....Denny Hamlin announces Reddick joining his team in 2024....resulting in some pissed off RCR responses.....
OR Chip Ganassi announcing Alex Palou's extension was picked up while McLaren AND Palou announcing he's driving for that team next year!
.......
Palou put out a lengthy tweet about this, as Tony Kanaan rumored a month or so back, we'd be shocked to hear who the 3rd AMSP driver would be. Whether we wish to debate Mr. Brown's ethnics here or not, having lifted a second CGR driver from their stable, not to mention a strong push for Scott Dixon (with ownership shares), I personally like the aggressiveness. Chip I presume is ready to go to war here.

of note, Palou's tweet (I think it's been deleted) tagged @mclarenf1 not SPAM

It was the McLarenF1 account that tweeted welcome to Alex FWIW, he just retweeted them. However I read the McLaren release, and Palou is definitely NOT going to be in F1.
Also, great one from MP!

As for the CGR 10 car in 2023, isn't Ryan Hunter-Reay signed to some type of IndyCar reserve deal with Chip??

btw, there's a growing thought that if "McLaren F1" signed Palou, that might be technically enough to be considered an F1 out in Palou's contract. If there is one, and sometimes there indeed is, though it's rarely exercised as we know.

If I had to guess, I would say Ganassi knew the deal with McLaren was coming and he rushed to announce he had exercised the option on Palou for 2023. I’m sure Chip knows Palou will not be driving for him next year so he’s complicating the situation to work out a buyout scenario. I’m sure nobody wants a driver who doesn’t want to be there so why not get money out of it. I wouldn’t be shocked if Chip goes to 3 cars next season.

Ganassi knew what was coming down the pike when Palou himself informed the team he's not driving there next year. That was I believe at or since Mid-Ohio. It's highly unusual for a PR pro to put out a release without getting all players to sign off on the language. That points to Chip effectively firing a salvo here. Palou should have kept quiet, and let McLaren deal with this fall out. Now there's going to be continuous questions about the 10 car. I don't think McLaren were really interested in responding to this at all, but Palou "jumped the gun." Now whether his claims of being misquoted in the PR statement, or McLaren being an F1 out in the contract, that's for the lawyers to decide.
As for 2023, I still feel like Marcus Ericsson's situation might also have to be resolved here. He won the Indy 500 and may succeed in the title fight, yet he remains a ride buyer on this team! Now I doubt he has any realistic alternatives, but it's kind of whacked that the most successful driver on CGR this year will be asked to produce the team's budget once again with a mostly sponsored seat open.

I didn't realize Ericsson had this ride buyer rep. He seemed fine in the meat grinder that is F1 and was just part of the churn of drivers that aren't Max Verstappen.
