As the race was happening this was being discussed. Button mentioned that with the car parked so close to the pit entrance it would be worrisome to try to pit. Yes, it was open, but it could be closed at any second, and Lewis has had issues with pitting at the wrong time in the past. I do not think it was confusion. I think he was worried about getting a penalty.
