You must be joking. It wouldn't surprise me if Max is ahead of Bottas by lap 1. Maybe even turn 1. And once Max is ahead Bottas will never catch him. Hey look, I was correct again! Again? When were the other times?

Leclerc was running in third most of the race, Sainz was just making up positions driving a much faster car. Bottas was amazingly flawless and IMHO the true DOTD. I agree Bottas was flawless but I voted Checo as DOTD on the official thingie. His wheel to wheel against Lewis was the only thing that happened in the race IMO. Yes, for a wet race it was very dull.

Race was pretty much a snooze fest. I did like listen to Lewis losing his shit after the pit stop. The man whines so well.

Bottas drove a flawless race which isn't like him. The race was fairly uneventful for wet race even the stupid penalty on Gasly. What's wrong with race stewards anyway. Gasly had Perez inside and that was a racing incident if I ever saw one. I am really surprised they gave Gasly a 5 second penalty for a first-corner incident on a wet track when he had someone to his inside. Granted Perez wasn't inches away but as Jenson pointed out, Gasly's line was pretty much defined before Alonso appeared outside. Fernando should have been penalized for the Gasly incident in addition to the Schumacher incident.

Alonso seemed to be the person at fault (putting his car in a place it probably didn't belong) but he is the one that suffered so let it go. I suspect the judges saw Gasly open up his steering a bit and used that for a penalty but for a first-corner incident where the person in the middle is NOT the one who decided to go three wide (Perez and Alonso did) that seemed a pretty harsh penalty.

Pretty dull race overall, esp after Alonso got punted and then made a rare mistake on Mick. Nice race by Checo. Seems like maybe he's getting used to the car and maybe we'll see more of this from him going forward. Nice race by Max, too.
Nice to see Fernando owning that mistake. You don't see that too often in this sport. And apologizing to Mick was a nice touch. Mick just can't catch a break.

I wouldn't have had a problem with there being no penalty for Gasly, as I think he merely understeered into Alonso. But a penalty on Alonso for trying a move around the outside that we've seen work time and time again? No way. Might as well tell them they just can't race. That kind of move has its risks, and sometimes it will end like this, but had he pulled it off he would probably have finished in the top 5, and we'd be talking right now about another trademark great Lap 1 move from Fernando.

Yeah I think they probably made the right call, esp for Lewis's safety and to limit damage in the standings. Did you see what Ocon's tires looked like after the race?

Two weeks back Lulu whined but came in. The end result was that he won the race. Today, Lulu whined. Merc listened and it cost Lulu prolly 1 or 2 places at the finish. There's prolly a couple guys on the grid who can call their own race. Alonso for one. And sometimes, but not today Seb. Maybe add Riciardo. His call for the early tire change two weeks ago was epic. Had McLaren forced the issue with Lando after Dannys tire call he prolly would have won the race. Add Kimi but it's hard to see now days as he's at the back of the grid. If Lulu had raced 50 - 70 years back when the the drivers had to call their own races he would have been retired or dead after a couple of years.

An outside pass is a legit move in the wet because there's usually more grip there. Gasly lost time off the line with wheel spin and that let Fred and Perez get a run on him and Fred was already ahead when Pierre slid into his rear wheel. Seeing how much latitude they've been giving 1st corners this year it should have been down to a racing incident.

What got lost with the talking heads was as the inters wore they lost heat and grip, Ocon lost something like 15 secs to Stroll over the last 12-15 laps, that and the flat spot was a clue to what would have happened to Lulu if he hadn't pitted and tried to stay ahead of Perez.

Isn’t it interesting how Mercedes always manages to ‘find’ more speed from their PU that supposedly was already maxed out. More interesting would it be, if the FIA acceded to an experimental collaboration with Red Bull or Ferrari giving them an illegal PU advantage just to see how Mercedes somehow miraculously ‘finds’ more performance to overcome them. But the FIA would never do that, it might betray a collusion with Mercedes.
Honda made it clear that they had pulled out all stops by time of the Monza GP to give the maximum power upgrade for Red Bull/ Verstappen. We saw the performance advantage that should have seen them finish out the season with the upper hand. And yet now again Mercedes mysteriously not only unlocks power to match the Honda, it actually exceeds it! Really?!!! It strains believability and fuels the most cynical conspiratorial impressions.
We all remember Mercedes and Red Bull’s accusations against Ferrari’s performance jump, whereby even the FIA’s delegates could not find anything conclusive with the way Ferrari managed to bypass the fuel restriction regulation. But Ferrari had to agree to abandon it’s advantage, relegating them to a sub-par performance level and negating all their development work. Indeed, having to design a completely new PU to try and find some measure of parity until the new rules take place in 2022.
When queried whether Red Bull was lodging a protest against Mercedes’ ‘upgrade’, Horner cagily replied with the common ‘request for clarification’ of intake plenum sensor location. The fact is any engineer whom designs related components of the PU would have taken advantage of any ‘loopholes’ in the regulations from the outset of engine design, much less manufacture.
No doubt the FIA will give Mercedes a pass on this development in the hopes of 'spicing up the show’.
