Lewis and Bottas have changed chassis. Bottas seems happy and is quick. Lewis is off the pace and not happy, thinks something is wrong with car. Gee, is it the car that makes the difference?

Look at that! Alonso was P4! This makes me happy.
I'm not sure I understand why Bottas and Hamilton traded chassis.
And I like those bear statues. I want one. It would look great in my living room.

I'm not sure I understand why Bottas and Hamilton traded chassis. "“It’s not a new chassis,” Bottas explained. “It’s different and it was always planned for me to change to a different chassis at this point.” Bottas has taken over chassis number six, which team mate Lewis Hamilton has used since the beginning of the season. Hamilton will take over chassis number four.A Mercedes spokesperson confirmed the change had been made in order to ensure their available chassis complete similar mileages. Bottas last changed his chassis following the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, where he was involved in a high-speed collision with George Russell which severely damaged his car."

It makes no sense to swap for mileage, unless you are making the assumption that in the future one of these drivers will complete fewer laps for some reason.

They're having to modify a chassis to fit George Russell. The only reason he isn't in there now is because George didn't fit into the car very well last year and the teams were restricted with chassis development because of the token system.

I thought teams were supposedly using one car for the season unless it was severely damaged. After all SPARE cars are no longer permitted.

It's not a new chassis, the chassis just swapped garages between the Team so Lulu is now driving the chassis Bottas drove in Baku and Bottas is driving the one Lulu drove.

With the chassis numbered as 4 and 6 - to us common folk, that would also indicate that there are chassis 1, 2 . 3 & 5, if not 7 through 10 or more.

Yup guessing they didn't pass the tests to be used for the season, 1, 2, 3 and even 5 could have been used pre-season too and rejected as they found things to improve on. Toto may be able to answer that if someone were to ask him.

I just watched P3. Maxie is in another time zone. And I noticed something on lulu's hot lap. on his warmup lap at about 20 min to go and on the hot lap at about 18 min to go, at sharp right hand corner, maybe turn 5 or 6, when lulu takes that corner, his right front tire comes off the pavement. I didn't see that on others. If ya got a tire coming off the pave on a corner, lap after lap ya have problems. It could be the tv coverage and maybe others are doing it. the whole broadcast tries to be even handed, but lulu always gets the best camera shots and so on.

I found this on the web, motorsport.com, that explains what I saw. One of the changes with the most obvious knock-on effects of Zaffelli’s redesign is the new ‘crown’ (a slight bump) installed at Turn Five. 18TH JUNE 2021 BY CHRIS MEDLAND “The reason [we were asked to install this] is because initially it [the asphalt] was very flat and a lot of water was standing there,” Zaffelli explains. “And there were no overtaking manoeuvres there, they were only happening at Turn Eight. So what we decided was to just build a proper crown there, to have the water going on the right-hand side. “If you look at the cars going there now, you can see that some are lifting the right wheel in the air by a certain number of centimetres, depending on the setup of the car. Zaffelli says as a result, driver skill can now displayed in a more obvious manner – and there’s one team which is getting the best out of it. “Now, if you are good enough to stay outside Turn Four, you can go into Turn Five to avoid that sort of a jump,” Zaffelli explains.

Sure, so he provided feedback and pushed it back up the order. Amazing that. He understands how important the skill of the driver is.

Sure, so he provided feedback and pushed it back up the order. Amazing that. He understands how important the skill of the driver is. How do you know Lewis gave feedback that improved the car? All he said on the radio was that there was "something wrong with the car", nothing more. The engineers may have simply looked at the data and made setup changes without consulting Lewis. Or maybe the test driver back at the factory in England overnight tried dozens of other setups the engineers put into the car on the simulator until the pace improved. Again never consulting Lewis.
