the question is, though, will Giovinazzi beat him consistently? Gio is supposedly on his way out. I know, but a brand new driver will likely not have even the consistency of Bottas. So I expect him to remain the #1 driver and do fairly well through the end of his two-year contract. Few drivers have showed up and kicked ass over their entire first season in F1.

Presumably, given that he is designated the #1 driver, they would try to make the car so it suits Bottas?

Don't Ferrari have any hot young drivers to run through their satellite teams? How in the world is Merc. usurping their influence? It's all about the 'gelt' at Toto's disposal, I suppose.

Ferrari has drivers in their academy but none of them are particularly hot. People make the mistake of assuming that Alfa is a satellite team where Ferrari has rights to a seat. There is some evidence that all that Alfa is paying for is naming rights and the driver seats are still Sauber's to market. Fiat Chrysler/Alfa does not have any financial investment in Sauber. Don't assume that Bottas was Mercedes property, he was at the end of his contract and free to go. DeVries has Mercedes ties and what happens with that if he is signed is anybody's guess. And yes Toto has power.

Apparently Toto is hot to get De Vries a seat in F1 because Merc is pulling out of Formula E (where he won the championship last year) and with Russel (finally) moving up they no longer have a young prospect in the sport.

How he has managed to keep diva/fashion kook Lewis content is beyond me. Ferrari has historically always been a bit lax with young drivers, more so relying on signing drivers already established in F1. Leclerc was a bit of a coup for them and unfortunately their other best bet Bianchi died.

I am guessing that DeVries ends up alongside Bottas, Albon goes to Williams and I expect that the Red Bull power plant ends up their also in a season or 2. Could also see Gasly there when that happens.

By supplying an "exceptional wingman" on the other side of the garage, and by letting Lewis do or not do whatever he wants.

It would be interesting if Bottas was a candidate to race alongside Max in 2023, he has to be exceptional at Alpha first though I think

One of my favorite bits from last year was when George muscled his way past Bottas at the Sakhir gran prix. Can't wait to see him teamed up with Lewis. I think it's either going to be totally awesome or a big shit show

Now what to do? Keep an eye on Hulk's twitter feed? Not hopeful, though.
