Lando's mom raved about George so I think this will be fun.

All F1 drivers have skills - do they have the same level of skills as the 7 time WDC driver? I have been racing far to long to believe that the car is the only thing that wins. There are drivers that can win in virtually any POS that meets the rules of the class. There are drivers that can take what appears to be a 'world beater' of a car an make it a also ran. In Bottas we have been viewing a highly skilled driver that doesn't have the skills of his team mate. Sorry, Russell is a professional F1 driver, not an also ran. The Mercedes' pace is on average 1 full second faster than the field over the past 8 seasons. Lewis wouldn't be a seven time WDC without that car. Russell has proven himself to be an amazing qualifier. Dragging that Williams dog far up the grid. So much so he has impressed everyone including special praise from Vettel and Alonso. www.gpblog.com/en/news/68456/vettel-feels-sorry-for-russell-not-the-result-he-deserved-.htmlwww.motorsport.com/f1/news/alonso-praise-russell-williams-robson/4902166/What we will see once again is that in F1 the car and engineers are 90+% of the pace. Russell probably has a 30% chance right now of taking pole. If he shows he is fast in practice those chances could rise to 50% or more. A guy and I were talking about driving firetrucks one time...he said he drove his nearly 80mph and I said I mine was governed at about 60mph, he asked me if I knew what the difference was and then said 'things happen faster the faster you go and you have less time to react to any problems'. I think Russell will do fine as long as he can adjust to the faster car and stay adjusted throughout the race, otherwise he will be fast in some areas and have troubles at other areas and the Racing Point cars and Max will fight with Bottas for the podium.

Considering that we are talking about a current F1 driver - the speed differential between MB & Williams is on the order of 3 to 4 percent. - the question will be if Russell can exploit the differences since he has had a slightly different frame of reference. The difference is not between 80 MPH and 60 MPH - it is between 102 MPH & 104 MPH or maybe 103 MPH. I also suspect there might be some 'tools' that MB makes available to Lewis & Bottas that might not be made available to Russell.

I wonder how well Russell will be able to use the DAS system. I have to think that would be a bit strange if you are not used to it, but most likely he will have it down by the end of the first practice.

Don't expect much. Other than maybe a fleeting moment in qualifying the same old Mercedes rule will apply. Their drivers aren't allowed race each other.

Apparently they are monitoring all drivers especially the Red Bull guys since Lewis has COVID. Let the games begin!
Also, I'm going to be in F1 next season probably since they consider LOLonso a young driver.

Speed isn't as relevant as the car's composure, the Merc is a much more stable car than the Williams, you can see that from the on-boards. A bad handling, ill balanced car will feel a lot faster than a stable, refined one. Russel's biggest problem will be tapping into the last 2-3 percent of the car's performance Lulu and Bottas lulu take for granted. Considering the speed advantage of the car he only should have to worry about his team mate and Max this weekend.

I forget; assuming George scores points driving the Merc, does he get the driver's points and they get the constructor's?

^Yes on both counts, it doesn't matter who drives what or what's being driven by who in either championship. Teams even brought "hired guns" in to win important races back in the early championship years.

Lest we forget, Russell has been annointed a "Saturday Driver" because he performs so well in Practice and Quali, but can't back the results up on Sunday due to a bad car. I suspect he will do really well, but I also suspect 1st place battle will be between Bottas and Verstappen.

Well I'd guess you'd know. Aw hell, I don't give a shit, even if she is partial to rear instead of mid engine Porsches I'm still a fan.

They will probably get an exemption because he will fly his private jet not 'economy class' like the rest of us. On the other hand there is nothing left for him to win so he may just say 'rules is rules' and sit out the rest of the season and start his vacay early.
