This will spice things up! Maybe they should spray some water on the track, too!

'Penalizing' by eliminating lap time when track limits are exceeded during the race is BS. If track limits are to mean anything, eliminate the lap from the cars lap count. Exceeding track limits is running into the tracks virtual wall - walls create damage, more damage than just having a lap time stricken from the car's record.

I had forgotten how much I like this track. It's fun to watch on this one. And I am happy for Ricciardo.
I must admit, I never thought anybody would tie or beat Michael's record. Strange.

Ric on podium = good. Lando in a lawn chair - shades of Lolonso.

Mick gave Lewis a helmet that Michael wore during his MB years. Toto probably had to get it out of the trophy case.

I'm not sure I'm with you on being that extreme but do think the guys figured out waaaay too early in the race that running waaaay wide in turn 1 and then coming back in front of someone else was okay. I know they have a certain number of allowable excursions but think they should reduce that by at least half! Then refer then to the Stewards for post race penalties or take Team points away or even next race penalties if they don't want to wait on the podium announcements. AND deleting laptimes during the race is just plain stupid UNLESS they also remove the lap from the total count!!! Laptimes during the race are meaningless for 19 out of 20 of the drivers!!

AND deleting laptimes during the race is just plain stupid UNLESS they also remove the lap from the total count!!! Laptimes during the race are meaningless for 19 out of 20 of the drivers!! For 19 of 20 of the drivers and for only one lap out of all the laps that were driven in the race. Such a penalty is no penalty at all. If violation of track limits is not draconian penalty - why even have track limits. Track limits should never be some official making a call about crossing some painted line. Track limits should be self enforcing - gravel trap, grass boarder, sausage curbs, maybe even a paved shoulder that has water running over it. I'm not trying to wreck cars, just make the course imposed time/loss of control penalty sufficient to make the drivers believe that exceeding track limits is not the best option to improve their lap times or to make a pass. For the most part NASCAR has track limits right - if the wall was not moved off its foundation, track limits were not exceeded. I am acutely aware of the difference between NASCAR taxi's and F1 cars and for that matter the various forms of sports cars. In my form of racing, with the suspension my car has - FIA curbing tends to be a no go zone for how it upsets the stability of the car.

No matter what the number is, they shouldn't be able to use one of those excursions to complete an overtake, which is exactly what I saw several times at T1. Leclerc did it 2 laps in a row. Ridiculous. Same goes for going wide while defending. They should have to give up that position just as attacking drivers should have to give back a position gained by going wide.

The problem with the exit of turn one is it's part of a piece of track that by-passes the turns 2, 3 and 4 so there won't be any gravel traps or grass placed there. Nor do i think they'll install high curbs. That's a relatively safe part of track so the best solution would be some well placed "jersey barriers" about a meter outside of track limits. The drivers would still have a little leeway to gather a sliding car up a bit but they would not be allowed the liberties they have now. That will however pretty much take away most of the overtakes down there.

Congrats on Kimi Raikkonen for being the Ironman of Formula 1. Not a way to end his day with a 10 second penalty. Let also hope for 100 next year for Lewis.
