He'd also be satisfied with being #2 to Lulu. And being the Sky-Sports-top-Brit-in-waiting. I think that is Lando.

That story refers to the rest of the season outside of the 500. It's been amended now.

Renault admits Alonso is 'an option' for 2021
Renault has confirmed that Fernando Alonso is an option for it as it looks to sign a second driver alongside Esteban Ocon in 2021. Earlier this month, McLaren announced that it had penned a deal with Daniel Ricciardo for next year, which will see the Australian leave Renault after two seasons.

I would think they are looking for someone to complement Ocon, not race in their own bubble. Alonso is a great driver but can or will he help bring Ocon up to his potential in a shorter amount of time than a young up and coming driver who would be much cheaper, the young guy being more of a pupil than a teacher.

I'm sure those are all things they will consider.

I think they should consider how Alonso brought up Hamilton.

Well for one thing, by putting him up against Alonso, they can find out if Ocon really is the future or not. I don't think he is, and I doubt they really do, either. And he's a Merc driver anyway. If Ocon's really very good, he won't be at Renault for long anyway.

Renault needs Fred there as a show pony not a coach, losing Ricci was a huge kick in the balls for a "factory" (cough) team so now a big ticket driver is needed to show they're a team worth driving for.

Vettel is still available as far as anyone in the public knows, he might relish the chance to beat Ricci in Ricci's old car so to speak.

a bit of humor about Kimi and Sauber. Prolly applies for next year. :-) Read the whole article if ya have time. :-) scuderiafans.com/alfa-romeo-f1-boss-reveals-kimi-raikkonen-doesnt-read-agreements/?fbclid=IwAR0umr5kHdZsCDcufa5Ejk4eeLs9WgwH5J0mug8nwmem-oQXFCRSiblfEtYBeat Zehnder continued: “When at Monza in 2018 Ferrari decided that they’re going to go for Charles, we had immediate contact. We had a meeting which was the Tuesday after the race with Fred, Kimi, and myself. We basically did a contract within two hours. Well, a contract – we did an agreement, because Kimi doesn’t read contracts! Through all the years, we had a very special connection. At the time of refuelling, we would always tell him how much fuel we had at the start, and would always have a very good connection to each other.” – the Alfa Romeo boss concluded.

I'd forgotten this but Renault does have a driver they could promote.

Renault has a Chinese guy in F2 as well that's doing pretty well, if he can finish 4th this year he will have enough points to get a Super License
