Honda has scored a great deal. I doubt Red Bull made the decision without tripple checking the engine. They probably know more about engines than your averag customer team. Their Tag Heuer engine is not 100% Renault. I've never read anything to suggest that the Renault engines are modified and quite frankly, I can't see reason for Renault to give a customer access to enough information to allow them to build any modifications. I can believe 'astute' customers can develop their own information to allow them to make minor modifications to the mounting and operation of the engines. When Renault was competing as Lotus and still supplying engines to Red Bull - didn't Red Bull come up with the 'exhaust blown diffuser' and Lotus didn't? Is Renault supplying the ECM operating program for the McLaren manufactured ECU, or is RB supplying their own?

In this month's Porsche Club magazine there is a small article about Porsche, F1 and Liberty Media. Not much new in it, but there was a small tidbit of unknown until now history of the matter.
It seems Porsche was fully intent on entering F1 sometime in 2007-2008. They had hired Alex Hitzinger to run the team and worked out a plan with VW wherein the chassis would be built in collaboration with Audi and carry the four ring branding with Porsche supplying the engines. And guess which driver they began contract talks with? None other than rookie sensation at the time, Sebastian Vettel. It all fell apart with Lehman Brothers collapse in 2008.
It all means jack now, but it is interesting.

Is Renault supplying the ECM operating program for the McLaren manufactured ECU, or is RB supplying their own? At that point, the Red Bull/Renault partnership was closer to a factory effort along the lines of McLaren and Honda given the quality of the Red Bull effort and the lack of actual factory involvement in the Lotus team.
