I would go beyond that and say catch fencing in general has resulted in many devastating open wheel accidents... Kenny Braack, Dan Wheldon, Dario Franchitti, Robert Wickens all come to mind... Go further back to Jeff Krosnoff and Tony Renna....RIP to both. Catch fencing is a necessary evil to protect spectators. Where there aren't spectators, why is there catch fencing, other than it is cheaper than a wall. A 10 foot or so high wall, protected with SAFER barriers at its base would serve Pocono where all the spectators are on the front straight!
