Indy Star is reporting Indy Car has cited Sato for avoidable contact but no further penalties or suspension will be issued. What a load of BS. What a bunch spineless idiots. So, it is acceptable for a guy to go wipe out a couple million dollars worth of cars during the first 14 seconds of a 500 mile race, the same guy who played bumper cars with Hinch and Ericsson between turns 4 & 5 on the opening lap at M-O and boasts a series high 40% crash rate during his career in Indy Car. Gotcha, that makes a lot of sense.

A racing incident that was caused by the poor judgement of the RLLR driver.

I watched other videos, and from Rossi's in-car it sure looks like he got spooked by the car coming up his left side and flinched. Just my honest opinion. But Sato is an easy scapegoat with his past. Just like any NASCAR crash when Jimmy Spencer was in the same area code. Except a hell of a lot skinnier.
The thought that keeps coming to my mind is, this looks like a group of drivers who never raced open wheel at places like Knoxville or Winchester.

The tunnels might fill with mud early. Truthfully - both NASCAR and IndyCar should schedule several races on dirt each year - to retain the historical connections to the series roots.

^The IndyCar schedule years ago had several dirt tracks as part of the championship... So did NASCAR. Both series had their original roots well entrenched in dirt.

IIRc Milwaukee was one of them. The only IndyCar race I have ever been to was the 1971 Rex Mays 150. It used to be the first race after the 500. When we got out of the car they were running practice (or warmup?). I still remember the incredible sound, unlike anything I had ever heard.

And football players used to wear leather helmets. Times change. My HS used leather helmets - at that time they had the same interior suspension and padding arrangements as did the plastic helmets. Personally, I think leather would be better today as it attenuates and absorbs some of the shock loading that the plastic just transmits and overloads the suspension and padding.

Looking at the earliest seasons of IndyCar, it's also evident neither the CART/USAC split nor the CART/IRL split were first. The sport started with two series. The more things change...

8. Says Indy Car needs to send a strong message to the drivers. Sato is the one who triggered the wreck, he said a very harsh punishment needs handed down to him to get the drivers' attention. He said Sato should be suspended, probably two races. ^ This...
