Short track 'promoters' THINK they can rope in their normal competitors by having a rules set that is not shared by other tracks. They really know how to shoot themselves in the testicles.

The biggest problem in this area is tire rules. If you want to race at this track, you need American Racers. If you want to race at that track, you need different model American Racer tires. If you want to race in a series, you need Hoosiers. So now, the series that has raced in the area for 30 years, cannot go to those speedways because of the tire rules, and winds up being sold to someone in a different state. You have three tracks running the same car in the same area on the same night. And splitting the cars and fans up. And then they cry because they can't get big crowds anymore.

My son raced two tracks about 50 miles apart using the same car. At one track there was a 'minimum weight rule' but no scale, that track also had a rule that 'ballast' could not be exposed within the car. The other track also had a minimum weight rule and a scale to apply it. My son needed about 100 pounds of ballast to be legal. They found 'hiding' spots for the ballast and ran the same car in the same condition at both tracks. Needless to say and the track without a scale he was giving up several hundred pounds to the competition.
