FIA to close Formula E rule loophole after di Grassi pitlane controversyThe FIA will close the “loophole” that allowed Lucas di Grassi to controversially lead the London E-Prix, while the "global image issue" lies with the Audi driver failing to stop.
Audi driver di Grassi climbed from eighth into the lead when he travelled through the 50km/h limited short London ExCeL pitlane during a particularly slow safety car period. While allowed under the rules, di Grassi did not come to a complete stop in the pitbox due to a brake lock up and so was dealt a drivethrough penalty, which was not served, before being disqualified altogether. A similar patten emerged in Berlin last season when both Mahindra Racing cars, including London E-Prix winner Alex Lynn, gained places by hitting the pitlane during a full-course yellow. While the rules were amended in response, the same loophole was not closed for full safety car interventions, which allowed Audi to execute its strategy that almost returned the win. Frederic Bertrand, the FIA director of Formula E, has now told Autosport that the rule pertaining to the full safety car - Article 38.11, which reads: “the pit lane entry and exit remain open and cars are free to pit provided that they stop in front of their pit” – will now receive similar treatment. www.autosport.com/formula-e/news/fia-to-close-formula-e-rule-loophole-after-di-grassi-pitlane-controversy/6636811/?_bta_tid=09510061845476429860208380288299622567321737314751106586949009320577489829294570676310379389877100973835

It was a brilliant move. Too bad di Grassi didn't come to a complete stop and make it legal.

With the Andretti - Sauber talks getting RKO'd and with fails on Plan C and Plan D, Andretti might resort into getting a Plan E started: Getting a potential US driver in Formula 1 by via Formula E. The Race website mentioned about 6 drivers who could potentially get the 2nd seat in his newly-branded Avalanche sponsored Andretti E-car. the 1st 2 are the roommates - Both Indy Lights Champs - 2019 Indy Lights Champion Oliver Askew and 2021 Indy Lights Champion Kyle Kirkwood. The 3rd wheel of this list is Santino Ferrucci. The other 3 that they mention was veteran Ryan Hunter Reay, James Hinchcliffe and Logan Sargeant. Hunter-Reay could possibly stay in Indy Car and Sports Car even he has to sit out the ovals for Ed Carpenter to race. Hinchcliffe might stay for Sports cars, Indy Car events and commentary. Sargeant is already picked up by Williams. Kirkwood is at odds knowing that he has to compete at least the Indy 500 + 3 Indy car events for scholarship purposes. Ferrucci is the long shot, but let's see where he will stand. Aside from Sargeant, this is the only option into getting another US driver into Formula 1. Minimum: The E Title and a 4th place finish for Maximum points. 1st - 30 points 2nd - 25 3rd - 20 4th - 10 Same points system as FIA Formula 3. A total long-shot. the-race.com/formula-e/the-americans-vying-for-andretti-formula-e-vacancy/

I would have place him and would have started the "US and North American hopefuls - Class of 2022" thread. But this is an exception. Still: I would place him as a US F1 hopeful. Andretti Autosport has re-united with Jupiter, Florida native Oliver Askew. The 2019 Indy Lights Champion and 2020 Rolex 24-HRS of Daytona LMP3 class winner is going electrical with Avalanche Andretti Formula E team as a full-time driver. A US 1st joining Jake Dennis. Since Andretti Autosport continues on how to enter Formula 1, this could be the chance. 2 US drivers only raced a part time campaign. All with Andretti Autosport (Marco Andretti and Scott Speed). HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING!!!www.fiaformulae.com/en/news/2021/november/indycar-oliver-askew-joins-andretti

Oliver is progressing in his new school of Hard Electrical Knocks. Askew came from a potential back-marker to a possible mid-packer in the time sheets. Did Andretti Autosport got a steal. Now now did the tables have turned. And Indy car loss could become a Formula E's gain.
