Half the rating of Xfinity? wth? I’m starting to think there are about 300,000-500,000 real Indycar fans and a race on network picks up a few casual fans. Some exceptions to the rule are a race that has a NASCAR lead in will pick up an increase because NASCAR as so many more fans.

I long ago stopped trying to understand ratings in this day and age... It seems to be working out for the NHL. They had an overnight of 6.2 which massively outshines the 500’s 3.9 overnighting on the same network. I think the ratings may have their flaws but it shows how much of a niche sport Indycar has become. That said, the ratings, although by small margins, are improving.

I agree IndyCar racing is a niche sport. It will never be baseball, football, basketball, or hockey. I am just glad I am able to watch either live or taped IndyCar racing on TV...

It wasn't always. I remember the Indy 500 getting better ratings than most other sports.

The split allowed NASCAR to flower into the prime racing show - NASCAR, having been a flower is now is becoming a weed and shriveling away. The withering of NASCAR has given the unified IndyCar the opportunity to attempt to regain their original spot in the Sun.

I haven't seen the attendance figures. Any idea what the number was on ticket sales?
