the racing world is full of shoulda, woulda, coulda's. The kid won fair & square. having said that, not using track limits was a complete joke. and prolly dicated the outcome with the wreck at the end. Remember Burke Lakefront Airport at Cleveland? Track limits were the walls. Some of the best racing CART put on happened at Cleveland. They didn't have walls jutting back into the track or exit curbs. They also had grass around most of the track, so it really wasn't the walls.

There was more than one line to most all the corners that were effective.

Okay 'fluke' would have been a better word. Still, a couple idiots ruined the race. Classic Indycar.

Track limits defined by painted lines is BS - Track limits need to be self enforcing - be that walls, grass, sand traps, 'sausages' etc. Painted lines are not enforceable limits.

I'm hoping that next year they allow the drivers to straight line the esses. Nasty little things that inhibit good racing. Even better bring in the Ecclestone shortcut.

I'd prefer for there to be a gravel trap there, but there honestly is no reason why a white line can't be enforced. Even if they just went as far as telling the drivers to keep the cars on the curbs rather that driving behind them they would be able to catch the really egregious offenders. If I recall correctly, the interpretation of track limits by Britain MSA is just that. The curbs are considered part of the race track, but all 4 wheels must remain on the track.

If track limits are not self enforcing - they are arbitrary! If one is 'not supposed to drive behind the curbs' why is the area behind the curbs 'derivable'. Where you want the cars should be reasonably smooth (I'd like to see F1 on Sebring - full course). Where you don't want cars should in such a condition that the driver that gets there loses serious time - if not control of the car. There have to be more consequence to 'exceeding track limits' than just crossing a painted line that someone must make a judgement upon.

Lines can be driven over. Bumps, not so much...
