The 'no track limits' decision was brilliant. It was a fantastic race right up to the Yellow Flag, at which point it turned into a piece of crap.
I'm not knocking Herta, who drove amazingly, but to take Power and Rossi out of the picture on a whim just fucked the whole thing up. I was watching on DVR and couldn't stand to watch the last 5 laps, so I deleted it without finishing the race.
It went from one of the best races I've seen to one of the worst in no time. I am very bummed out.

There was no 'whim'. The wreck and recovery blocked safe entry to the pitlane. Power and Rossi F'd up not pitting earlier.

Okay 'fluke' would have been a better word. Still, a couple idiots ruined the race.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 Every year, I keep hearing how this is gonna be Marco's year....
If his last name wasn't Andretti, he wouldn't have a ride.

Didn't the no track limits play a role in that crash? The way I saw it was a collision of cars trying to get back on the track. Had they been on the track, no crash, right?

Okay 'fluke' would have been a better word. Still, a couple idiots ruined the race. If we go back in the hallowed mists of history - winning a race in the 'glory years' was more of a fluke than anything else. The dictum, 'to finish first, first you must finish', was in full force in the 'glory years' as mechanical failures affected the outcomes of most races. How many '$5 parts' have failed in the closing stages of the Indy 500 and presented the world with a 'surprise' victor. Racing and sports are all about FLUKES - if they didn't happen there would be no reason to watch the events.

the racing world is full of shoulda, woulda, coulda's. The kid won fair & square. having said that, not using track limits was a complete joke. and prolly dicated the outcome with the wreck at the end.

Track limits were the walls. Some of the best racing CART put on happened at Cleveland.

Herta did not thank Firestone. I know they do it just to appease the sponsor, but seriously, what exactly is a driver thanking the tire company for when the series uses a spec tire? "Thank you for giving me the better tires out of an inconsistent batch," doesn't exactly sound like something you'd want to promote.

Had they been on track they probably wouldn't have even been side by side as Hinch would have likely had to back out on corner entry.
