Post-race penalty hands Bird’s Hong Kong E-Prix win to MortaraVenturi Racing’s Edoardo Mortara has been awarded the victory in a controversial ABB Formula E Championship Hong Kong E-Prix, after the winner on the road — British driver Sam Bird — was assessed a 5-second penalty for clouting race leader Andre Lotterer from behind in the closing moments of the race. racer.com/2019/03/10/post-race-penalty-hands-birds-hong-kong-e-prix-win-to-mortara/

I'm not thrilled by that penalty. The contact between Bird and Lotterer was a lot less than the one where Vergne ran up the back of a car earlier at the same spot. The only thing that was worse was the damage.

It was the damage that created the penalty. I saw it as 50/50, but the stewards obviously saw as more on Bird.

Now that I saw the Jaguar E-Trophy race, I'm even more annoyed by the penalty. A driver got punted into the wall in the last corner at high speed (okay, high speed for an electric Jaguar sedan) in a spot that no one has any real business trying a pass and there was no penalty.

Were the race stewards the same for both races?

Overall, the track was just too narrow and tight...
