Yeah... I had my private rating and then grew terrified of heights in my late 20's. I actually logged about 25 hours in sailplanes before going to powered and absolutely loved it. Now, I can't stand on a chair to change a light bulb without freaking. If I have to fly commercial, I get on the plane looking down at my shoes and don't take my eyes off them until I get off the plane. Interesting... I have my private ticket as well, but haven't taken a plane up in 35 years or so... I kind of lost my nerve for it... I seemed to be spending all my time aloft looking for the best spot to land in case of an engine out... I was only really comfortable with another pilot in the other seat... Plus my wife hates heights, so flying with her was out...

After thought... Considering all the bad conditions and lack of real practice, the drivers ran the race fairly cleanly. Good on them!
