The future of automobile racing?

The future of automobile racing? Good question, eh...? Even though F1 is halfway there already with hybrids, I don't see full electric going much beyond this series...
It's difficult for me to imagine the Indy 500 or Daytona without the bone rattling sound at the start...
Similarly, it's difficult to imagine Road America, Spa or The Glen without the sound of the engines echoing through the hills and trees, even when you can't actually see the cars... Sound is such an integral part of the spectator experience, that I can't see it going away...
What are your thoughts...?

What are your thoughts...?
It would not surprise me at all that open wheel racing as we know it now will be history within 20 years. The technology is just advancing so quick. I could easily see an electric car in the Indianapolis 500. Maybe not exclusively but certainly becoming a part of it. Experimenting with automobile technology was the reason for building the Speedway since the beginning.

No doubt a great deal will depend on where engine manufacturers go...

Ok... I'm game for this now that they're using one car for the whole race.
To the people commenting that they want engines sounds... it is wholly possible for the cars to carry audio systems replicating piston engine sounds.
It might be a wise move for the sanctioning body to require them. But, I would want the sound files to be wide and varied... randomly assigned per event weekend. Everything from the past glory of racing. A 4 cylinder, a v-12, a turbo diesel... all the famous sounds!

I stumbled across the race on YouTube (just posted there.) Racing action starts around 35 min mark of the video.

I thought about them doing that as well, but then my next thought was, "This is getting pretty weird... I mean artificial sounds...? What's next - artificial exhaust smoke and odor...?" I guess I'm getting too old to handle this new world... I recently read an article on digital currency and got a headache trying to understand how Bitcoins work...

Then again, I saw the turbines run at Indianapolis and was completely thrilled by them. My favorite era in racing was the early years of turbocharged cars. The sound was less so we could hear the car on the road and could detect the wastegate banging along on over-run and hard acceleration (before pop-off valves in the plenum.) Flying electric RC planes as opposed to piston planes, I'm still learning the sounds that come off them which we never heard before. Weird flutterings going into stalls, or huge turbulence from deployed flaps give a stronger sense of loads and stresses can readily be noticed. It changes how I fly the plane.

Qualifying airs on FS2 6:30am EST Saturday the 15th. Race airs at 7:30am EST the same day as qualifying on FS1. I guess Fox is just putting their program schedule out as a "guideline"... I set my DVR to record those two events, and FS2 pre-empted qualy with soccer, and FS1 apparently started showing the race early, as I only got the second half...?

Didn't they refer to the Indy turbine car as the "Whooshmobile"...? Even the turbo'd Champ Cars sounded pretty cool... Saw them in 2006 at Elkhart... The methanol odor smelled like perfume to me...
Have you tried real flying...? You'll definitely learn about the forces of the wind - especially when trying to land...

Yeah... I had my private rating and then grew terrified of heights in my late 20's. I actually logged about 25 hours in sailplanes before going to powered and absolutely loved it. Now, I can't stand on a chair to change a light bulb without freaking. If I have to fly commercial, I get on the plane looking down at my shoes and don't take my eyes off them until I get off the plane.
