I read a article about that this morning. They also talked about the WEC at Sebring next spring. the day b-4 the Sebring 12 hour race. It's going to be a 1000 mile affair. Now that sounds interesting. :-) The Sebring WEC round scheduled for next March will now be a 1000-mile race rather than 1500 miles The race takes place on Friday, March 15, the day before the Sebring 12 Hours IMSA SportsCar Championship race.

2020 regs propose to basically get rid of EOT and basically replace it with BOP to try and reduce costs. There's already a proposed 5MJ limit on hybrids and one hybrid system per car. Could this also mean that fuel flow might be scrapped and replaced with air restrictors? I just hope that they don't go into Grand Am levels of BOP if EOT is gotten rid of: sportscar365.com/lemans/wec/simon-fia-new-regs-to-avoid-extreme-tech-development/

So all of the spending will be on aero since they can say there's a maximum amount of downforce, but that doesn't stop teams from trying to find that downforce with least drag possible.

Chaves gets AXR call-up for Watkins GlenVerizon IndyCar Series driver Gabby Chaves will make his return to IMSA’s WeatherTech SportsCar Championship to stand in for the injured Joao Barbosa at Action Express Racing. Following this weekend’s IndyCar race at Road America where he’ll drive the No. 88 Harding Racing Chevy, the young Colombian-American will stay within the General Motors family in the No. 5 Cadillac DPi-V.R as teammate to Filipe Albuquerque and Christian Fittipaldi for the Sahlens Six Hours of The Glen on July 1. “The first thing is of course that you never want to have an opportunity because someone got hurt, so this is an unfortunate circumstance with Joao having his injury,” Chaves said of the two-time Prototype champ who suffered wrist injuries in a cycling accident. racer.com/2018/06/18/chaves-gets-axr-call-up-for-watkins-glen/

I started a separate thread when the ACO/FIA announcement came out for a new formula of "Hyper-cars". Not sure whether to put these comments/questions there or here?
First, I could find nothing in the ACO/FIA announcement of a new formula for 2020, about a secondary class of cars, as the P2s are now. There may not be an official answer to these questions yet; just speculation on our part. What happens to P2? What about a "Gentleman's" Class, (Gentleperson's Class?)for amateurs? Will there be a secondary group? "Hyper-car Lite"? There is mention in the new formula that manufacturers will have to make cars available to privateers. Is this expected to fulfill the function of P2? Will the budgets for privateers still need to be in the $30 million dollar range?
These later questions have a more or less direct baring for IMSA. The DPis, even as manufacturer cars, are still based on P2 cars. What if P2 goes away as a global formula? will Oreca, etc still produce chassis just for IMSA teams? Will IMSA have to become customer teams of the big manufacturers under the new formula?
Once again, I done not expect IMSA to be able to get together with the ACO/FIA. This issue has dragged on long enough and the ACO never gives. I can understand their wanting a more exotic formula for their global platform. But it seems that this will once again conflict with North American sportscar racing.
I would say it is time for IMSA to get it over with and cut the cord. But will IMSA itself now have to come up with a new, non-P2 based formula?

JDC-Miller-Stallings pondering potential Hyundai DPi programThe successful union between IMSA entrants John Church, John Miller, and Bob Stallings could provide the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with its fifth Daytona Prototype international manufacturer. As Church told RACER in a recent interview, the Wisconsin-based JDC-Miller Motorsports team, which added Stallings and his GAINSCO Insurance support to the program this season, is exploring its options to acquire DPis for 2019 to replace the spec WEC P2s it currently fields. If an agreement with Acura — which uses the same base ORECA 07 chassis JDC-Miller/GAINSCO drove to victory on Sunday at Watkins Glen — is not forthcoming or if Cadillac, Mazda, and Nissan are unwilling or unable to make their DPis available, Stallings says his strong relationship with Korean auto manufacturer Hyundai could form the basis of a JDC-led DPi effort. racer.com/2018/07/03/jdc-miller-stallings-pondering-potential-hyundai-dpi-program/

Jacky Ickx named 2019 Amelia HonoreeThe Amelia Concours d’Elegance has announced that Jacky Ickx will be the Honoree for its March 8-10, 2019 event. Ickx is a six-time Le Mans winner, 1979 Can-Am champion, a Formula 1 victor and a Daytona, Sebring and Paris-Dakar winner. “There is something heroic about Jacky Ickx,” said Bill Warner, founder and chairman of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. “When things are at their worst Ickx is at his best. Grace under pressure doesn’t begin to describe him. He’s a racer whose abilities, reputation and record stand with the greatest of all time.” Five-time Le Mans winner and 2007 Amelia Honoree Derek Bell said of Ickx, “For me he was the Ayrton Senna of his time.” racer.com/2018/07/03/jacky-ickx-named-2019-amelia-honoree/

Now this is some pretty sad news. Champion Racing and Champion Porsche/Audi owner Dave Maraj passed away after a boating accident Saturday night. There's a story on Sportscar 365 and I'm pretty sure that other outlets like Racer Magazine and Daily Sports Car will have pieces up shortly.
Here's a short article from Audi Media/Audi Sport on Mr. Maraj's passing:

PRUETT: Split decisionIt won’t make every entrant happy, but IMSA’s decision to split the Prototype class into separate championships was the smartest option available to the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series. Announced Friday at its State of The Series event, the adjustment comes after two seasons of largely unsuccessful attempts to balance IMSA’s custom Daytona Prototype internationals and the FIA World Endurance Championship-spec LMP2s. With a win tally of 14-3 in favor of DPis, the recent upturn in fortune for the P2s with back-to-back wins wasn’t enough to halt the mounting wave of frustration expressed by the auto manufacturers and teams supporting DPi. racer.com/2018/08/03/pruett-split-decision/
