5 Teammate Comparisons That Prove Comparisons Are StupidAs F1 fans we all have a never ending desire to try and uncover who the best drivers are, but there can be such a thing as taking it too far.
Fans love to use teammate comparisons as a way of deciding which drivers are best.
“Lewis Hamilton beat Fernando Alonso in the championship in his rookie season so that obviously means he’s the better driver!” But while you can learn a lot from comparisons, they never tell the whole story. If you start judging drivers using the relative performances of their teammates, where do you stop? To highlight that, we’ve come up with some teammate ‘chains’ which show just how ridiculous it can get.

Those comparisons pretend time doesn't exist. I don't think that Hamilton is the better driver because he beat Alonso over a season, but relative performance when both were on their game demonstrated that Hamilton (in his first year, no less; many times that was his first time on a given track) was at least his equal. As Rosberg showed, given a few seasons things can change. Of course this season Hamilton became favored strategy wise over Bottas and that happens in other years. So it is important to make valid comparisons when both are hitting on all cylinders, so to speak.
