A few perspectives from drivers who have been there.

They traded bad racing for bad racing.

Days like today I miss Redteam. We could continue our debate on Sonoma being a good track for Indycar. Oh, how I miss those days.

I always thought the two tracks were pretty similar...

So, Indycar can have their finale on September 22nd but wouldn’t allow Fontana to be the end of September or early October? This entire finale situation is stupid. Indycar cares more about catering to the corporate people and hospitality areas than they do giving the fans a good show and final race. That’s exactly Indycar’s problem at the moment: the fans do not come first. That’s the one thing I really miss about Randy Bernard. The guy always looked at things from a fans perspective and maybe he did to a fault. All I know is if Indycar had their fans in mind, Sonoma would have never been the finale and Laguna Seca would not be either.

Catering to Corporate people and hospitality areas for them is what pro sports has become, not only in racing but all the stick and ball sports. Screw the everyday Joe Sixpack fan. Got to have the luxury sky boxes with caterers so the inhabitants of them don't have to expend energy to get their adult beverages and pate. NASCAR is starting to experience what happens when all the corporate spending retreats. The corporate Golden Geese are taking their golden eggs elsewhere or no laying them at all.

It always seemed to esculate to us getting warnings and maybe a vacation from the forum. I don't remember how many screen names I went through at the Speed forums.

Maybe change is good. But Laguna is a crap track too.

I was once on a “vacation” from arguing with Red. lol 😂

racer.com/2018/07/19/miller-right-place-wrong-time/ Miller is absolutely correct and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to support Indycar and a lot of series these days. They seem more concerned with taking care of everyone but the fans, and if they keep that up, there won’t be any sponsors or fans left.

Look for my email in Robin’s mailbag next week. I went off on that very topic. Who runs the series? Is this CART again? The fans should always come before the owners under realistic circumstances.

I like going back to Laguna, it is an interesting track. But the points finale should be at a venue that promotes (allows?) racing.
Last year's build up of the exciting points race fell flat at Sonoma when, well, nothing happened. It looked like a race-long caution at high speed.

Right place, wrong timeI don't like the direction the team owners are steering the series (where have we heard that before?). I mean, wining and dining the sponsors is important, and I'm sure the owners would rather have the closer at a sophisticated snotty road course. But who are the sponsors going to be advertising to if the ratings tank again? There was a great build up to the finale last year with a new interest in the season championship. And Sonoma laid an egg. A big ugly egg that fans are still complaining about. Sure the people at the track probably had a great time. But compare maybe 50,000 fans to 1,000,000 with remotes in their hand... Which begs the question. Do team owners care what is in the best interest of the sport?

Playing devils advocate they would say well the series needs more/better marketing worse than any season finale date, and we need to wine and dine the few sponsors we have to keep them happy and cant do that in Iowa.
