Wait, the poll for the best car has the options of RBR, Merc, Ferrari, and ........ Alpine? Surely you jest. Yes, I called you Shirley. My mind has a hard time reconciling that Fred and Stroll drive for the same team. Maybe DTS will fix that?

Even though I cancelled my F1TV Pro already, it's paid through like March 3, so I took in highlights of each of today's test sessions. The early session was fine, but when I watched the evening session, they had the audio from the early session playing over video from the evening session.
Amazing.

Most things get uglier as the years go by. Except for my wife.

Drain cover strikes again. Another red flag, right at the start of the session ...

max was the only runner to set his time on the C3 in the top six. The others were using the softer C4. Which won't be used nest week.

Stroll 9 tenths slower than Fred in the same car!! Shouldn't be a surprise - Fred's an alltime great driver.

Looks like Alonso is on average about a half a second slower per lap. Was that what we were suppose to get from this chart?

Looks like Alonso is on average about a half a second slower per lap. Was that what we were suppose to get from this chart? Nope. It's that Max's Day 3 long runs were more similar to Alonso's than anyone else's, and that Max's and Alonso's tires were wearing very well. And Alonso's not off by 0.5s. It's less than 0.3s on average overall, and his quickest stint average (his last) was only about 0.13s slower per lap than Max's quickest one (also his last).

Avg times from Fri: long run practice for Bahrain a year ago. Not much change from what Max and Fred were doing. Racing today is only vaguely done at the limit. The elderly drivers who are supposed to have lost some reflex skills can easily run at the modern tire and fuel demands level. Big part of why teams are reluctant to bring in new blood when the old blood can still keep pace.

As Bernie Collins was saying, when the tests were held in Spain the teams would bring new parts every day. Those parts would be produced based on what the car did the previous day. Testing this away from base with such a short lead to the 1st race has changed that metric considerably, i expect to see a few 1.5 spec cars show up by P2.
