Shocking news really, but two-time CART champion and 2003 Indy 500 winner Gil de Ferran has died.
Gil was at IndyCar races for years after his retirement, largely for Honda, then later McLaren. He was always a gentleman and so friendly. I will always recall fondly his work in the Walker Racing Ford's up against the better equipped teams.

I'm very shocked and saddened. I had de Ferran on my mind yesterday while I was watching the 2004 Indy 500 (the only year I missed watching that race).
This news came in all of the sudden this evening. It hit me like a truck...
R.I.P Gil de Ferran.

Sad day for motorsports. 241 has been one of my favorite numbers for a few decades now. Thanks for the memories Gil.
