I just finished decorating our tree. I'm back on the Island after spending the Fall in St. Louis and frolicking all over the south.

The Zoo in St Louis is a good one, they also have a very nice Butterfly House and a REAL old time wooden carousel with a real calliope playing.

I am starting to head towards retirement; not yet but 2024 brings me a lot closer. As I make plans for finances for that time, I am making sure I account for the ability to attend one F1 race per year overseas. Some I can probably talk my spouse into coming with, and others with friends. Would like to go to Suzuka, Barcelona, Abu Dhabi and Melbourne for sure; perhaps Silverstone and the Red Bull Ring. Each for the track, experience and other things to do around the area to make it perhaps a two week trip.
What are the races you'd want to see live? I'd like to drive Spa, but not sure that attending a race there would be that great.

Silverstone, Canada, and the Ring were all excellent. Sure. But how were the plot, acting and direction?
Did they use that horrible, "BOOM boom BOOM boom" background music noise behind every action scene?
Were there shots of drivers looking across at each other and scowling while careening side-by-side through the Masta Kink?
Were most of the over-5L cars running line-astern or two-by-two down every straight? And was that same shot used repeatedly?
Lots of TITillating sex scenes?
I expect to decide how to see it soon, and I want to be prepared. My choices are:
1. Go to a theater and turn off my hearing aids 2. Wait for it on NetFlix 3. Wait for it on Pirate Bay 4. Watch "Grand Prix" for the twenty-leventh time and remind myself that nobody could make a good racing flick even back when at least the cars, tracks and drivers where great, and only a few of the teams had accountants. And the racing meant something, even if it was an unpleasant concept. Prize money in 1967: USGP $20,000; France $5000; Everybody Else $2000. S'truth
5. Forget it and wait for the 24 season to start
I've watched the trailers, and I think 5 is my best bet, although I may choose 4. I just watched "Rush" for the third time, and finally realized it isn't very good either. Got to decide soon; my daughter (age 43!) is dragging me to "the Wizard of Oz", and wants to throw me a bone by taking me to a movie she thinks I'll like. We both got a few good laughs out of "Ford vs Ferrari", though.
How is "Days of Thunder"? Do any Black drivers get lynched?

Sabrina can correct me if I am wrong, but I think she was referring to my post about tracks to visit, not scenes from the Ferrari film.

She was, I was trying to reference Red_Hercules above her post. But I STILL haven't figured out how to put a reply right under the post I'm referring to. There must be a way, since most people seem to be able to do it.
Of course, I COULD RTFM, I suppose.

If you want watch something real from the same era as the Ferrari movie try this.
Buy it, rent it, watch it.

How is this acceptable conversation at this website forum? Oughta be. It's a reference to the silly non-story about the Nascar garage door pull-down rope, which is just the kind of thing ham-handed Hollywood screen-writers would love to use to plump up the story and make it relevant.
Or is that too subtle?

Yes, I think I've seen that one. I thought I had it somewhere, but my NAS server has been down for months, so I'm not sure. I've heard it can even be pirated, somehow, although I wouldn't know, or even know how. It is pretty good, but I was thinking more of a start from scratch story using modern technology, fiction or real, that wasn't as hokey as every daytime soap opera. And just because the CGI is good, that doesn't excuse fake drama, such as having drivers glaring at each other on the track while driving. If they are close enough to do that, even on a straight, I guarantee they're to busy to do that. I think that explains Vettel's safety car hip check on Hamilton at Baiku. He was angry, looked over and started shouting, and the hands followed the eyes.
Update: That's not the one I was thinking, but it is quite good, except for the horrible background humming, buzzing, booming un-harmonic non-music (not you, Etta dear! You da bomb!).
I'm thinking of something like "Rush", but with story, acting and direction on the order of "Amadeus". Real music, too.
