I saw that titled elsewhere as something like "Verstappen is Mercedes' top choice to replace Hamilton". Yeah, of course he is. He's everyone's top choice.

Current silly season summary in one tweet.
Boy, those French! They have a different word for everything. Translation:
#AMuS The transfer market is at a standstill because the competition is waiting to see what happens at Red Bull. Max Verstappen is coveted by Mercedes and Aston Martin. Adrian Newey is coveted by Aston Martin and Ferrari, Mercedes seems less interested. Aston Martin hopes to offer an attractive + package for Max via the Honda engine and Adrian Newey. Flavio Briatore hopes to place Alonso at Red Bull. Sainz navigates between Mercedes, Red Bull and Aston Martin, but Audi is putting pressure. Sainz's decision should arrive around mid-April.
AMuS also says Hulkenberg is "set" for Audi and Sainz was given an ultimatum to decide by mid-April.

Everyone is probably waiting to see what happens at Redbull and if I were Redbull I would drag this out as long as possible to screw the other teams making them wait for something that probably wont happen....

I have to wonder if the Red Bull seat is really in big demand. The only sureties are that they will have Honda power next year and the team is built around Max. Can anyone come into the team in '25 and actually upset the status quo?

Can anyone come into the team in '25 and actually upset the status quo? Which means it'll be Alonso, right? Hasn't he tended to go to teams AFTER they peak?

'26 power is a big unknown for Red Bull which is something Alonso already tried.

If he goes, he isn't gonna wait until 2026 to do it. He'd still likely have the best car on the grid in 2025. Who knows? He might even retire as WDC, which would be cool. I won't be a bit surprised or disappointed though if he extends at AM. I don't see the Merc move at all, unless it's beyond 2025 and they have demonstrated to him that they have a PU advantage in 2026. I'd love to see him stay at AM and they also pull Newey, but that probably won't happen either imho.

This article says prety much what I've been thinking. formu1a.uno/it/wolff-accelera-la-preparazione-di-antonelli-test-in-austria-poi-imola/- Everyone interested (Horner, Wolff, Alonso, Sainz) expects Verstappen to stay at Red Bull. - Alonso is not interested in Mercedes as he believe Aston Martin is a better team. His intention is renewing with AM but he's taking a bit of time to see how the situation at Red Bull evolves. - Wolff is dreaming about Verstappen but he's also accelerating Antonelli's F1 development. He's gonna have multiple F1 test sessions this year. - Sainz is having talks with Mercedes.

LOL I just realized something. Since the start of 2023, Oscar Piastri has scored 125 points. Fernando Alonso has scored 222. So that's 347 between the two of them.
Alpine, as a team, has scored 120 points over that period.

I can see Sainz at Mercedes and then Russell being moved for Kimi in 2026. I think Sainz want to go to Audi but doesn't want to be there the first 2 seasons
