And without Hinchcliffe, the race would have been a complete waste of time. I talked to people after the race and most of them said they likely won’t be back because it’s not worth devoting a summer Sunday to. Oh, and nobody mentioned Kesolwski or Stenhouse. What was mentioned was one car dominating year after year. Even the year RHR won was because of a late yellow and he had fresh tires. It takes something odd to make Iowa exciting. Also, all the passing is fine but it loses its luster if there’s a battle for 5th between cars a lap or two down because it’s not really going to progress to that car challenging for a win.

Having dominant cars is not new to racing. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. At my age it is just one of many parts of racing...

I agree but if it happens at the same track, it’s not good for business. With peoples attention span today, it’s not a good thing. I’ll guarantee that Iowa will not bebon the schedule within 5 years. I estimate yesterday’s crowd at 15,000. The moment Indycar loses Iowa Corn as a sponsor, they lose the race. You guys can say all you want and we can debate what is a good race but what’s for certain is what’s happening at most ovals now isn’t good for business. And this is coming from a person who thinks this years 500 was the best in a long time but unfortunately, I’m in the minority.

What was needed to make you and the ones that left the 100 degree ambient temperatures stay around and believe you all got your money's worth.

I would say not having 5 consecutive boring races at the same track would be a start. It’s a fucking spec series now and should not have 1 car dominate every race. At least back in the 80’s and 90’s there was a reason a few cars would dominate. And yeah, the people who actually go to the races should feel like they got their money worth more than some fucking arm chair qb who sits at home in air conditioning. Keep having your philosophy and Indy will be the only oval left.

And I’ve never left a race early and go to 3-5 Indycar races a year. How many do you go to? I think I have a better pulse on what the attitudes towards the racing is. You know, by actually being there and talking to people instead of watching the leader lap everyone 5 times and counting it as an “on track pass.” BTW, I passed at least 1000 cars on I80 on the way home yesterday. The fans in the other cars gave me rave reviews.

For one, I don’t think the series does enough on track testing and too much is done using simulations. I also think the cars need at least 150 more hp on ovals. It needs more of a wow factor. The cars are heading in the right direction as far as down force levels but to the average fan (which the series needs) I don’t think they are all that impressive. I’m just tired of seeing tracks leave the schedule, or come back and leave again. I’m a road-course fan but I want to see at least 6 ovals on the schedule and I think what they have can be good races and I want to see them succeed. Going to Homestead in place of Phoenix is a mistake also but that’s another topic.

racer.com/2018/07/09/frye-explains-iowa-finish/ I’m not disappointed. The last thing I would want was Hinch losing with a few laps left after pulling away to a late lead. A lot of people complain on other sites about finishing under a yellow, but at the same time, without a yellow Hinch would have won by 5 seconds. I don’t understand how losing a race based on someone else’s yellow is fair. Somehow winning under caution is bad but winning by 5 seconds isn’t as long as it’s green?
