It's a street race so there is hope for it not to be 11 in a row.
Monza was a thing. Sainz tried hard.

Will the FIA come out with a Directive that no more 5 second end of race penalties will be handed out but instead a minimum of a drive thru the pits penalty will be enforced instead?
I think Max will bide his time and end up being #1 again, his car is just faster than the other front runners, Albon could be faster but he still makes too many little mistakes.

I think all penalties should be served within 2 laps of being handed out. The 10 second penalty served 20 laps later on a pit stop is less of a penalty. Lewis should have gotten something more equal to what he inflicted on Piastri

Though actually the 5-second penalty is essentially active right away. But I get what you mean; I wish they had a penalty box rather than having to pit. Someplace where a car can screech to a stop. Wait five seconds and then tear out again onto the track. Driving through the pit lane is too long of a penalty for most infractions, I think.
My wife really wants to go to Singapore some day so it is a race that I might one day attend :-)

Just penalize them positions in the final classification. Been saying this for years, and now it seems to finally be gaining some traction in the message boards at least.

But how do you decide how many places, it's usually bad driving that gets the 5 second penalty ie not going thru the exit ramp when you miss the corner, going off track too often, speeding in pit lane etc, though Lewis got it for his failure to be able to control his own car when close to another car. If I use Lewis as an example do they penalize him one position, he actually made up 3 or 4 times that by the end of the race? Do you penalize the guy who goes wide 4 times in the course of a race 1 position as well when by going wide he could have made up 2 or 3 positions? it also wouldn't be fair to say okay you were in 9th place when you got your penalty so we are taking away your podium and making you 9th.

That would be up to far smarter people than me to decide. I saw one poster suggest that what are now 5s and 10s penalties could be replaced by 1 position and 3 position penalties, or something like that ... or they could be added to the penalty arsenal along with time penalties. The huge difference would be that these penalties would actually be hard, significant penalties that could not be clawed back on the track. Those teeth in them would make for a greater deterrent imho.

Because an idled hot F1 engine is basically cooked if it sits too long.

Maybe it is like MotoGP does with the loop or whatever it is called. This is my problem with the pit-lane drive-through; it makes the penalty pretty drastic (especially if you are twenty seconds clear of a fairly bunched pack). And honestly the current system adds some spice as well. It is a great incentive to haul ass and get five seconds clear of the car behind.

I remember all too well the debacle at the Canadian Grand Prix between Vettel and Hamilton where Vettel was assessed the five second penalty and the guys on tv said would be fine if he maintains a 5.1 or higher gap to the car behind. I still think he was shafted!

If you knock a car out of the race you have to lose places, it ridiculous that changing a part earns grid drops but driving like a clown is only worth a literal slap on the wrist.

These complaints about "penalties" sound all too familiar and keep reemerging every time an egregious or particularly controversial outcome occurs.
Face it, look no further than the sanctioning body to place the ultimate judgment and consequently, ultimate blame for the inconsistent punishments.
The inane reliance upon "stewards of the day" which guarantees inconsistent implementation only illuminates the idiocy of the governing body's doctrine itself.
Driving infractions are nothing new to this sport (especially since Senna came onto the scene), and the governing body has had more than ample time to refine and determine logical and meaningful penalties for them. Yet they conveniently choose to delegate them to these transitory stewards which change from track to track.
While certain situations may be deemed a "racing incident" absolving blame to either or any driver(s), other ones such as initiating or instigating an avoidable collision needs a predetermined penalty to be enforced within 1 lap. That means the driver(s) are forced to come into the pits for the duration of the penalty. Should the penalty exceed the time duration of any number of botched pitstops we've witnessed ~ like 10 to 15 seconds, the teams could employ the radiator cooling fans they place on the cars after the pre-grid installation lap.
The truth is we've not seen any comprehensive and incontrovertible resolution to the common on-track infractions by the governing body.
Inexcusable for the "pinnacle of motorsport" where billions of dollars and millions of people are involved.

RB can clinch the constructors in Singapore. Max will need a little more time but if his lead is up to 180 pts in Japan it will be done. I did not know that. Interesting. I wonder how ratings will fare for the rest of the races?
