Hendrick letting Larson do what he wants as far as racing non-NASCAR stuff and his willingness this time around to foot the bill in terms of sponsorship shows me how desperate he wanted Larson in '19-20 after he fucked himself in '15. And what Rick does for Kyle, he has to do for everyone else to be fair.
How many NASCAR drivers hunt or do target shooting? How often do guns blow up when shooting them? Almost never nowadays, but it still happens for that .00001 percent of the time. What are you gonna do, live in a fuckin' bubble for the rest of your life you're not at the track?
Not to mention that almost all drivers and team owners/team members travel by air. Plane crashes are rare nowadays, but can happen, with HMS being involved in 2, Rick himself in one where he was uninjured, and of course Martinsville '04 where several prominent HMS personnel died.

You can drown in a glass of water too. What's your point?
EDIT: I mean that racing is inherently dangerous. I don't understand why any team owner would/should agree to allow a top level driver compete in a much lower form of racing. The risk simply isn't worth it.

All of which goes to prove one thing - YOU are not a racer.

When you are not a racer - you do not have the thought patterns and fulfillment patterns that are the hallmark of the racers mentality. You will NEVER be able to comprehend what it is that drives racers to do the things they do and enjoy the things they enjoy.

You know, the guy who pays the bills.

You want to keep racers in your employment - BECAUSE THEY HAVE DEMONSTRATED WINNING RESULTS FOR YOU, you let them do what makes them happy. Unhappy 'employees' don't deliver RESULTS. You are thinking like a engineer, not the owner of a racing organization.

With that you are starting to understand. There is NO PERFECT design - racers find the limits of the design and its breaking point.

Kyle Larson is an extremely talented racer. You know why? Because he races a lot. I ride motorcycles on the street. I have never crashed on the street, and I attribute that to the years that I spent on the dirt riding in the dirt. Playing on the edge of traction helps you develop a feel and muscle memory that serves you when things get squirrely on asphalt. The saves he has made when things went south are amazing, and not every racer can do that. He can do those things because of the other racing he does.
I Hendrick insists that he stops he will not win as much as he has in the past. That will cost sponsorship, and race results and wins. And all of that is money.
As of right now Chase is not costing Hendrick anything. No and he is not winning and getting that money, but his sponsorship has not gone away. So. . . ???
