Niccolò Canepa to wildcard at Misano The Pata team will field a third factory Yamaha R1, alongside those of Van Der Mark and Alex Lowes Mirko Colombi Fri, 29/06/2018 At Misano, in one week's time, we'll see Niccolò Canepa return to the track, riding the Pata team's factory Yamaha R1. The Italian, a full-time entry in the World Endurance series, took part in the British round at Donington Park as a wildcard, but was unable to reach the points zone, proving just how tough it is to keep pace after a prolonged absence. Canepa, Superstock champion with Ducati in 2007 and winner of the prestigious Bol D'Or in 2017 , boasts significant experience that can be useful when it comes to developing a race bike, having ridden the Desmosedici GP and various Moto2 bikes; in the production-derived series, #59 - seen here in action at Donington - has competed with Ducati, EBR, Yamaha and Kawasaki. Niccolò has very good knowledge of the Misano track, having raced there in almost every category over the years; his R1-M will be directly supported by the Pata outfit, the Italian flanking Michael Van Der Mark and Alex Lowes. As for 2019, the Iwata manufacturer wants to increase its investment and commitment in the Superbike arena: important negotiations with teams and riders are underway, among which Mirko Giansanti's GMT team, Supersport champions with Frenchman Lucas Mahias. German rider Sandro Cortese is interested in making the move up, if there is a factory bike available for him that is.

Torres: "We are faster and closer to the front" Wednesday, 27 June 2018 Spanish rider continues to make more progress with MV Agusta Fresh off the back of two top nine finishes in the GEICO US Round, Jordi Torres (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) is happier with his pace as he continues to makes strong steps with his new team, working well with the Italians. Securing a best result of fifth around Imola, the Spanish rider has had a testing season so far with the MV, but he feels he made some strong steps around the fast and flowing WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Qualifying in 11th position, he left himself with a lot of work to do and secured a top nine finish in the warm Californian conditions. But ahead of race two, the Spaniard was able to make some even bigger steps and took seventh position. Happier with his overall pace, he explains: “We have managed to solve many of the problems we had at laguna, and the team has worked great to understand my riding style at Laguna. What’s important to look at is not only the top seven finish, but also the gap compared to the riders in front. On Saturday, we finished about 30 seconds from the front, and on Sunday it was 15 or 16 seconds. This is what is the most important to me. We hope to take this progress to Misano, which is an important Round for us. It is the home race for the team, so we have to push a lot there and try to give the best possible show.”

Haslam to partner Rea in 2019? Wednesday, 27 June 2018 Speedweek reports that the 2010 runner-up has held talks with Kawasaki Racing Team for a full-time return Silly season is in full swing in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, with rider after rider getting linked with the top jobs and few confirmations heading into the summer. We know that Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) will remain until 2020 with his championship-winning team; as for his partner, however, all bets are off. In the aftermath of the GEICO US Round, Speedweek.com reports that Rea could face the 2019 season with a familiar face alongside him – but not Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK). According to the German website, Leon Haslam is in talks with Kawasaki to take the second factory bike in 2019 and make his full-time return to WorldSBK. Speedweek also quotes Haslam, who confirmed that the option is open: “I have not signed anything yet, but everything is possible. Riding for the factory team would be a dream. I hope I know more this week”. The ‘Pocket Rocket’, as he is affectionately known, already teamed up with Rea back in 2013 and 2014 on a Honda, before moving to the Aprilia works bike for one year. In 2016, Haslam set off to the British Superbike championship where he remains to this day, but the 2010 WorldSBK runner-up has never quite left the world stage behind, making several wildcard appearances since. This season, Haslam joined the Kawasaki Puccetti team for both the Imola and Donington rounds.

Check out the top ten stats ahead of Round Nine
1. At Laguna Seca, Eugene Laverty (Milwaukee Aprilia) became the ninth different rider on the podium this year, and put an Aprilia back on the rostrum for the first time since the second Lausitzring race in 2016 (Alex de Angelis).
2. Kawasaki recorded their 118th win in Laguna Seca’s Race 2, and in Misano they will have the first chance to equal Honda at the second all time spot (119 WorldSBK wins).
3. There is only one rider in the current field who has qualified from pole at Misano: Tom Sykes, with six pole positions. He has recorded pole in all his last six race weekends here. He can become the first rider in history with seven poles at any given track. At the moment he shares the record with Troy Corser (six poles here in Misano) and with...himself, as he was on pole six times in Donington park.
4. This is the track in which a single manufacturer has won the highest number of races, as Ducati have won here 29 times. They also sit in second in the table, with 25 wins at Assen. The best number of victories for another manufacturer is 15 from Kawasaki at Donington.
5. The podium placements from Ducati riders in Misano so far are 77, an all-time record for a single track. The Assen value for the Italian manufacturer is 73.
6. Misano has hosted 50 WorldSBK races so far, and will equal Donington at 52 – third overall. Only Phillip Island (55) and Assen (54) have hosted more races.
7. Troy Bayliss is the most successful rider around Misano, with six wins spanning from 2001 to 2007, all scored with Ducati. The second place rider with four wins is shared by Max Biaggi, and the current Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK pair: Jonathan Rea and Tom Syke
8. There are only two riders with double digit podium figures here at Misano: Troy Corser (16) and Troy Bayliss (11). Jonathan Rea can join the party as he has stood on the podium eight times here.
9. Nine years ago, Rea got his maiden WorldSBK win at this track. 61 more and three World Championships have since followed.
10. Ruben Xaus is the only rider who has won around here, after starting outside the top 10 grid spots. In 2003 he recorded the double starting both races from 12th on the grid.

Gagne: "I hope we can continue our momentum" Thursday, 5 July 2018 American rider looking for more top ten results after step forward at Laguna Seca Jake Gagne (Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team) arrives at the Pirelli Riviera di Rimini Round having just taken his two best results in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship in back-to-back races at Laguna Seca. After several close attempts, the American showed in front of his home crowd that he has the tools to place his Fireblade amongst the top ten. At the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, that will again be the goal. This weekend will be the first time Gagne races at Misano in WorldSBK, but the 25-year-old already has experience and pleasant memories of the Italian track. It was here that Gagne took home the Red Bull Rookies Cup in 2010, a second-place finish enough to secure the title ahead of current Moto2™ rider Danny Kent. The Red Bull Honda rider was also on track here once in Moto2™, one year later. There are just five rounds left in the 2018 season, and the American will be eager to impress ahead of the summer break. Without the same ‘home advantage’, does the American think he can match his Laguna Seca performance in Rimini? “I think the Honda Fireblade will get along well with the track so I hope we continue our momentum and get some strong results before the summer break”, he says. “I’m really excited to continue making progress at Misano”.

2018 Misano World Superbike Race One Results: Nice And Warm Jared Earle on Sat, 2018-07-07
The sun stayed out at Misano and a higher temperature track would keep lap times down for the twenty one lap duration.
Jonathan Rea took the lead from Tom Sykes into turn one as Eugene Laverty and Chaz Davies, launching himself from the third row on the grid, fought over third place with Laverty winning out. Loris Baz crashed out on turn two, limping his bike back to the pits and retiring.
On lap two, Jonathan Rea set the fastest lap ahead and at the end of the lap, the front four broke clear of Xavi Fores and Michael van der Mark, stretching the field out. At the start of lap four, Jonathan Rea was almost a second clear of Tom Sykes and the fight looked like it would be for second place behind Rea, at best.
Heading round the last turn and into lap five, Eugene Laverty tagged onto the back of Tom Sykes and powered past him over the line and took second place from him. A lap later, Chaz Davies took Sykes on, hounding him from turn four onwards and sliding the rear into turn eight, swooping across the track to hold off any counterattack. A few seconds later, Alex Lowes crashed at the same turn, sliding his pike but holding on to the bars and picking it up to resume out of the points. He crashed a few laps later, ending his race.
On lap seven, Jonathan Rea had a second and a half lead over Eugene Laverty. A second behind Laverty, Davies and Sykes were a second and a half clear of Xavi Fores, Michael van der Mark and Lorenzo Savadori with Marco Melandri a further couple of seconds behind. Jordi Torres crashed out behind Melandri, losing the front harmlessly.
At half race distance, Chaz Davies finally broke Tom Sykes's tow and a lap later, Michael van der Mark caught Sykes and started looking for a way past, eventually pulling out a block pass at turn fourteen of lap thirteen, pushing Sykes back to fifth place.
As the other gaps stretched out, Chaz Davies was closing on Eugene Laverty, getting to within a second and a half of Laverty's second place. Laverty then suffered a broken sensor at the end of lap sixteen and went too wide into the last corner, recovering in time to see Davies power past in second place.
With no more changes at the front, the fight for sixth place was where the action was, with Xavi Fores and Lorenzo Savadori scrapping over sixth followed by Marco Melandri taking seventh off the defeated Lorenzo Savadori as his pace dropped for the last few laps, having worn his tyres out. Leon Camier held on to ninth place as the fastest rider on the track towards the end of the race.
As Jonathan Rea started the last lap, with several seconds clear from second place, he gave his team the thumbs up and even found time to wave toward the end of the lap and to pull a mightily impressive wheelie over the line as his team held out emoji 👍👍✊ signs to welcome him across the line.
Rea's decisive victory was his third in a row, a first for 2018, and increased his lead over second-placed, on track and in the title chase, Chaz Davies to eighty points. Eugene Laverty's second podium, another third place, of the year launched him to eighth place in the championship, knocking Toprak Razgatlioglu down to ninth. Michael van der Mark, in pole position on the rearranged grid tomorrow, consolidated his third place in the championship, ahead of fourth-placed Tom Sykes who finished fifth today.
