NASCAR competition officials take louvers from Hendrick Motorsports carsBob Pockrass @bobpockrass "A better look at the louvers. It looks like three separate pieces but it is one piece with a frame. All Hendrick cars had them confiscated after practice Fri. Replaced with new ones. NASCAR will take them back to R&D (I assume to scan) and then decide Tue or Wed if any penalties" Bob Pockrass @bobpockrass "Diagram from rulebook on piece taken from Hendrick cars. Frame with ridged plates — one complete piece that directs air flow thru hood vents. Any modifications could impact downforce. Teams have had issues with them fitting but been told to work with manufacturer & not to modify."

Bob Pockrass @bobpockrass
"All Cup cars through tech on the first or second time. No issues as far as prequalifying/prerace tech. The Hendrick issue with the louvers yesterday was something NASCAR checked all cars in the garage for — went from car to car feeling the edges of the louvers."

Considering that teams got hammered last year for making inconsequential modifications to bodywork, HMS should in theory be subject to similar penalties, since modding the louvers can effect aero.
Granted, JGR's mods at Pocono last year resulted in nothing but DQ's, and Penske/Roush wheel mods at Datyona resulted in no penalties other than a warning from NASCAR to not do it again without clearing it with them and/or supplier first.

What the hell was the deal with the 10s wheel? Team says the hub broke. According to the #10 radio they told the driver that the wheel broke. Not the hub. The Fox blabbering mouths said that he would lose the crew chief and tire changer, but if the wheel broke that doesn't seem right. It was a part failure, not a failure of the people putting the part on. Confused.

And the rule changed this year too--crew chiefs are no longer subject to lost wheel penalties. Only over the wall pit crew members.

And the rule changed this year too--crew chiefs are no longer subject to lost wheel penalties. Only over the wall pit crew members. Which is still stupid. My solution would be to make the driver park it. Race over, but that is a pretty huge penalty in itself. No one else should get hammered.

Big penalties this week Hendrick and Kaulig got slammed for their louvers. They are losing points and $100,000 each. Plus crew chiefs suspended for 4 races. Now Hendrick needs 4 crew chiefs. LOL.
"Competition officials also issued a safety violation for the loss or separation of an improperly installed tire/wheel from the vehicle (Sections 8.8.10.4 A&C) to the No. 10 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford driven by Aric Almirola. Crew members Ryan Mulder (front tire changer) and Sean Cotten (jack) were suspended for two races."
I do not understand this. It was clear as day on the radio they said that the "Wheel broke". So should NASCAR get the penalty for crappy ass parts?

Hamlin also got docked 25 points for admitting to trying to wreck Chastain.

Hamlin also got docked 25 points for admitting to trying to wreck Chastain. He also wrecked himself and cost himself and team spots on track. And he broke the 1st rule of stock car racing.
Landon Cassell is most certainly correct here.

I find it pretty interesting that only 1 of the Kaulig rigs got nabbed, and they found that during inspection for qualifying.
