Do you suppose IndyCar TV ratings would increase if they fired Diffey?
My god, his voice sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard.

715,000 viewers for the GMR Grand Prix is terrible. For a network race, that is pretty embarrassing.

Obviously I'm not the only one who can't stand Diffey. π I truly believe Diffey has a lot to do with why ratings are low. Why do these dumb-asses in charge think they have to stick some annoying accent in the booth for an American race???
I basically don't watch F1 because I can't stand listening to the screechings of the TV crew.

I basically don't watch F1 because I can't stand listening to the screechings of the TV crew. I've said this b-4. Indycar is a spec series. The only thing that's a variable is the tire usage. Well, also ya got the lumps. Some are better at one track or another but that's not the point here. So the race is on, the leader pits. Whoever was second is now leading and Leigh goes on and on how he last won a rase 5 years back and this is his chance. But in reality he's only in the lead because of the rotation pit stop thing. A lap later that guy pits and for a lap or two the next guy is leading and Leigh goes on and on on how this is the chance to win. But, when the whole rotation is done, the guy who was leading at the start of the pit stop rotation is back in front. So for maybe 10 laps all we hear is this guy can win, then that guy can win. When in reality only maybe 2 or 3 cars out of the 24 racing have a shot at the win. It's all absolute nonsense. Ya think the Captain would have seen through this nonsense years ago.

So how long does someone have to actually watch the race to be counted as a view? Is it just a randon snapshot, or is there more involved?

When in reality only maybe 2 or 3 cars out of the 24 racing have a shot at the win. It's all absolute nonsense. Ya think the Captain would have seen through this nonsense years ago. The Mayor of Hinchtown is the best for sure. Witty, knowledgable and capable of serious commentary. And he doesn't shout "Whooooaaa" every time someone hangs it out a little. But I want him to go to F1TV. He was great at Miami. But the whole NBC show is scripted from start to finish. No one could possibly believe those clowns are really so naive that they concentrate on has-beens and never-weres like Rahal and Jimmy Johnson. I wonder which way the money is flowing, and how much. And WHY, for God's sake! Johnson finished higher than last twice, maybe in his whole stellar Indy career, but every week they concentrated on him as if he were only a few more races from running in the top five.
Penske is surely instinctively more savvy than Liberty Media, which continues to try mixing hype with reality. That silly embarrassment of a driver intro ceremony they did at Miami seems to have back-fired. One F1 forum polled at 10 to one a bust, just like the initial COTA race. I think this one was probably Hamilton's idea. He needs publicity for more than getting beat by his teammate.
And I'm pulling for getting women involved. There is no physical reason for them not to be as successful as men. Emotional, perhaps, but I don't have the competitive drive either, even if I were a capable driver. The problem lies with finding women who can do the job, which is dirty, dangerous and pretty much devoid of glamour, at least in the starting series. And did I mention expensive? There's a pretty small pool to draw from, so naturally there aren't many at the top. Dragging up the likes of Legge and DiSilvestra just to put an extra X-chromosome on the grid is a waste of time. Nothing against either of them, but they never were capable of going head to head with the best male drivers and coming out on top (Getcher minds out of the gutter!). Denise McLuggage could, and Lyn St James, who drove Indy once a year at the 500, for Dale Coyne, I think. No regular drive, so no experience other than the 500, but she acquitted herself well in old under-budgeted equipment every year.
And speaking of talent gone a-wasting, I hope Ol' AJ will find a way to give Ferrucci a full-time ride. He has huge talent (not to mention cojones), especially on ovals. I think Foyt Racing could get him to play like a grown-up and let him show us what he can do.
