As time goes on, I feel like push to pass actually prevents passing and is used more defensively than offensively. I think it can bail out a driver when a competitor sets up a good pass by using talent and sets up a legitimate pass. Anyone else feel this way or have a different take?

Do teams have ability to see who is on it?
I agree, a lot of times, I see it used to fend off a driver who is on it.
Not sure if I have seen a winning pass made with PtP yet. F1 probably has the gimmick figured out with DRS, though.

I have a similar take, and feel IndyCar needs to have a discussion on this... I think Indy Lights only allows it as an offensive weapon, and possibly only when the trailing car is within a second of the leading car...? It does seem as if PTP is being used in unintended ways, such as to catch up to a car that is well ahead of you...

Watched the Indy Lites race - seems that the announcers mentioned that the follower needed to be within 1.5 seconds to be able to use PtP.

Not a fan. It seems counter productive. It reminds me of 1980's video games.

It's just one more gimmick that's not needed.

It's simple to get rid of the gimmick altogether since it was originally discovered in Indycar back in 1996.
Jack Arute nicknamed it APB: Absolute Power Button
Thanks Chipster and Honda...

It's just one more gimmick that's not needed. Yep, that and double points are the two worst gimmicks in Indycar right now. At least double points at Sonoma based solely on where it lands on the schedule.

^ Agree, double points should only be at Indy...

^ Agree, double points should only be at Indy... No, double points should be removed completely from the points scoring system especially when James Hinchcliffe was bumped out of qualifying and got virtually nothing.

To me double points at Indy is similar to PGA Tour players getting double Ryder Cup points in the four major tournaments... Without Indy the series couldn't exist - that's about as major as it gets...

At least double points at Sonoma based solely on where it lands on the schedule. Indy's cool considering its place in the sport. I don't think anyone would argue it's importance. Double points at Snoreoma is a joke. This year I'm watching qualifying instead of the race.
