Autodrom Most, Most, Czech Republic Autodrom Most is a new track in WorldSBK calendar for 2021. Thanks to its attractive event line-up, it is popular destination for many motor enthusiasts and their families from whole Europe. The track was completed in 1983 as a part of restoration of coal mine lands and it became the first permanent motor racing complex in then Czechoslovakia. Motorcycle racing has long tradition there, from club trainings to International championships.

does Most hold one final plot twist before WorldSBK’s summer break? After a stunning Donington Park, the WorldSBK entourage returns to the charming Autodrom Most, which made an emphatic entrance onto the calendar in 2021 From the title twist of Donington Park, the battles of Estoril and the clash of Assen, the 2022 MOTUL FIM Superbike Word Championship has seen it all so far in the first half of the season. Last corner battles and gracious victories, surprises in the order to a battling titanic trio, but is there one more surprise and plot twist in store? The Autodrom Most is next and it came onto the calendar with a bang in 2021 with instantly one of the best last laps in WorldSBK history. However, with a three-horse race for supremacy this year, plus riders knocking on the door to join them, it’s anyone’s guess as to what will happen in the Czech Republic this time around at the Prosecco DOC Czech Round. Despite still leading the Championship, Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) saw his points lead slashed at Donington Park after his first crash of the season in Race 1. Having had it at 36, it now sits at 17, more than halved. It’ll be Bautista’s first time with the Ducati at the track, which is similar to Donington Park with a fast and flowing nature. Ducati struggled at Donington Park but found form later in the weekend, whilst they were winners at Most in 2021. Could Bautista re-assert himself this weekend? Teammate Michael Ruben Rinaldi found a step at Donington Park and is now five points behind fourth overall; at Most in 2021, he achieved a double top five in the full races. Whilst he may not have won at Misano or Donington Park, Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) has made gains and is now right back in close contention for a seventh World Championship. With a new Kawasaki deal taking him until the end of 2024, Rea’s future is sorted and he can race for this year as his sole focus. He crashed twice at Most in Race 1 last year but bounced back for a 200th career podium in the Superpole Race and another rostrum in Race 2. 13 podiums from 15 races like his main title rivals, Rea hopes to make Most the 22nd different circuit he’s won at. Teammate Alex Lowes was back on the podium at Donington Park with third in Race 1 and is just 18 points off fourth overall; he’ll hope to crack the top five at the Czech venue for the first time. Having not won any of the opening ten races, reigning World Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) is now the only rider in 2022 to have won four races in five. The 26-year-old is looking at one with his bike and team boss Paul Denning commented on Toprak’s belief of being able to ride like he wants again. With “Toprak style” coming back, he comes to a circuit where he triumphed in a stunning final lap battle in 2021 against Scott Redding, although the two were at odds with each other in the heat of the moment after. Winning again in the Superpole Race and second in Race 2, Razgatlioglu has the best form at the circuit as well as coming into the 2022 round, having achieved a career-first triple at Donington. Teammate Andrea Locatelli hopes to bounce back after a difficult Donington Park at a circuit where he took a rostrum in 2021 with third. Huge gains were made in the BMW camp at Donington Park as a new swingarm enabled Scott Redding (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) to take his biggest points haul of the season so far and a first rostrum with BMW in the Tissot Superpole Race. Although he insists it still needs work, Redding has now demonstrated the potential that he and the M1000RR package could have and comes to Most in good spirits. He won Race 2 last year with a brilliant performance, and he’ll hope that he can make a proposal for the podium places again. Whilst teammate Michael van der Mark is healing up, Peter Hickman, fresh from his wildcard appearance at Donington, will stand in for the Dutchman at the Autodrom Most. Illya Myhkhalchyk, who stood in for van der Mark at Aragon, Misano and Donington, is preparing for the Suzuka 8 Hours. In what was always going to be a tricky Donington Park weekend, Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) and teammate Xavi Vierge got through it but now face a similar scenario as they head to a circuit that they don’t know. Lecuona is the only rider in the entire WorldSBK field to have scored points in every race – all of which have been top ten finishes – and that is vital for development of the CBR1000RR-R. He’s just eight points off fourth overall, with the fight for the top four being a four-way battle and seeing four riders covered by just 18 points. Teammate Vierge never looked settled at Donington Park but hopes that with his injury from Misano improving, he can hold onto a top ten placing going into the summer break. Besides the factories, the battle for top Independent is fierce; so far, it’s Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) who leads it and the Italian has made no bones about his aims of beating the factory Ducati of Rinaldi in his bid for a 2023 factory seat. After a top five at Most last year, expect Bassani to feature strongly; he lies eighth in the standings. The next Independent is Loris Baz (Bonovo Action BMW), who after a hat-trick of ninth places in the UK, arrives at Most for the first time, 28 points behind Bassani. Behind Baz, the enigmatic Garrett Gerloff (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team), who achieved two top six finishes at Most in 2021, whilst Philipp Oettl (Team Goeleven), Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing), Eugene Laverty (Bonovo Action BMW) and Roberto Tamburini (Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team) all head to Most for the first time, keen for a top ten before summer. Tamburini is three points ahead of Sammarinese rider Luca Bernardi (BARNI Spark Racing Team), who missed out on points at Donington Park but took a top five finish in WorldSSP at Most in 2021. Kohta Nozane (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) hopes for a return to points at Most, where he scored two 14th place finishes in 2021, whilst Christophe Ponsson (Gil Motor Sport Yamaha) aims to be fighting fit. Leon Haslam (TPR Team Pedercini Racing) arrives at Most fresh from BSB duty at Brands Hatch and aims for points in the Czech Republic once again. Leandro Mercado (MIE Racing Honda Team) and teammate Hafizh Syahrin hope to do their Czech-based team proud at home, whilst home rider Oliver Konig (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) hopes for his first points of 2022, where he took a podium in WorldSSP300 last year

HOT TOPICS AHEAD OF MOST: New deals, 2023 line-up gossip and tyre chatter A variety of topics and endless possibilities from the Thursday debriefs in the Czech Republic
The 2022 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship has arrived in the Czech Republic and the Autodrom Most for the Prosecco DOC Czech Round, which marks the halfway point of the season. With this being the sixth round, there’s plenty of gossip going into the round surrounding new deals, pending deals and the results that lie ahead this weekend at one of WorldSBK’s newest venues. We caught up with some of the stars to get their thoughts ahead of action igniting at Most.
Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK): “Winning is like a drug… that’s where the motivation comes from”
“I’m very excited because at this stage, it was something that we had been speaking about for a long time. I was just wanting to go into the 2022 season to understand how everything is working, understand the motivation to continue – both from my side and Kawasaki’s side. We’re on the same page about improving and the team’s incredible; right from 2015, when they gave me the opportunity to come here and win Championships, we’ve made great stories. It was more of a formality than anything, to understand each other’s wishes. I’m really happy to keep this incredible family together. Winning is like a drug, it’s something that you want more of and it’s what keeps you working hard at home and the team, and I think that’s where the motivation comes from to keep being competitive. It wasn’t harder to be motivated in the past but with Chaz Davies as my main rival, that was my motivation, to be beating him. Then, it’s more about my rivals right now, as they’re improving so much and of course I want to beat them, but I want to improve myself and still be the best that I can be.”
Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK): “Last year, after the long stoppie, I tried again! This year, I’ll try again!”
“Last year, I had two wins at Most and it was the first time here for everyone. This year, my goal is to have three wins, but we will see as Saturday looks like it will have rain. Last year, we were strong and also, Locatelli was quite strong too; I hope that this weekend, we can fight for the podium together, and I’ll try for three wins again, even if it’s not easy! We have a much better feeling now with the SC0 tyre and everyone will have to use the same tyres available, so this is no problem. We’ll try the old and new SC0 tyres, and we’ll see which is better for the race. Last year, after the long stoppie, I tried again! I was surprised but I tried again, but I couldn’t do it. This year, I’ll try again! It’s not easy as it’s 214m, as after we checked the data, but we will see.”
Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati): “About tyres, at the end it will be the same for everyone”
“I think it can be a track that suits our bike because basically, it’s fast corners and I like it a lot, so I am looking forward to starting on Friday and working with my Ducati. About tyres, at the end it will be the same for everyone, so you have to work to make the tyres work. For sure, I feel better with the SCX tyre, but we can only use it in the Superpole and Superpole Race, so we have to use the SC0 and new SC0 from Pirelli. Let’s see what happens with the new tyre. At Donington Park, we were close to the 1000th podium for Ducati but I crashed in Race 1. It’s not in my mind but if we can do it, then perfect.”
Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati): “My goal is to remain with this bike and team”
“I feel really good as we come from a strong few rounds. I want to jump on the bike as it’s a track that can be better than Donington Park. Our goal is to reach the podium this weekend and take the 1000th podium for Ducati. I know Alvaro is very fast, so maybe he will be in the statistics as the 1000th! My goal is to remain with this bike and this team because I feel at home and I think that this bike can make me win a Championship in the future. The last few rounds have helped because of the podium at Misano and the good result at Donington Park. We will start talking but there are no new things to say. I think at Magny-Cours, we will have news.”
Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK): “I enjoy the layout; I think the bike can work well here”
“I’m happy to arrive here at Most and I can’t wait to get out on track. There’s been some slight changes compared to last year and I’m looking forward to it. I enjoy the layout and I think the bike can work really well here; there’s some hard braking and some tight sections but I am interested to see how it goes. As a general rule, whenever everyone has been on the SC0 and I’ve been on the SC0, I’ve been better than when we’re all on the SCX, so it could work in our favour. However, there could be some rain so it will be important to put in laps on dry tyres and the ones that we’ll use.”
Scott Redding (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team): I hope this weekend, we can continue this form and continue fighting”
“To get my first podium with BMW at Donington Park was quite a special moment; all the weekend there was better progress from us. We were consistently top five or top six, which was good for the motivation and the spirit for myself and the team; it’s important to have these rounds and it was a weekend I really enjoyed. I’m confident that the changes we made will be good at other circuits like here at Most; whether we’re as good as Donington Park, I don’t know but I don’t think it will be as bad as previous races. Normally, when you change something fundamental on the bike, it changes the characteristics at each place you go. I hope this weekend, we can continue this form and continue fighting and be with the front guys for at least half of the race and learn more stuff that we can then develop.”
Oliver Konig (Orelac Racing VerdNatura): “It feels different; I sleep at home… I’d be so happy to stay with the team for 2023!”
“It feels different! It feels more like I’m going for training because normally I go on a Wednesday to the track and it’s different. This time, it’s Thursday and I sleep at home and everything. This is like I’m going just for training. It’s a little bit of a different feeling but I’m sure when I go to FP1, I will feel the same as the rounds before. We will speak after Most and we will know more but, for sure, I would be so happy to stay with the team because the team is amazing. Everybody supports me as much as possible. I’m very happy and I will be happy if I stay with them for next year.”

Bautista fends off Redding, Razgatlioglu for Race 1 victory at Most, takes Ducati’s 1000th WorldSBK podium place The Spanish rider started on the second row but was able to move into the lead battle, before going on to claim victory and Ducati’s milestone podium History was made in Race 1 at the Prosecco DOC Czech Round as Ducati claimed their 1000th MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship podium placement after Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) battled his way to victory at the Autodrom Most. The Championship leader started from the second row but was able to fight his way into the lead battle in a race held in mixed conditions. Championship leader Bautista started from the second row but soon was able to take advantage of Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) and Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) battling to close the gap. Bautista moved into second place on Lap 11 with a move into Turn 20 on the reigning Champion, before he followed that up with a move on Rea into Turn 1 at the start of Lap 12. He was able to clear his charging rivals to win by more than two seconds, going on to take his seventh win of 2022 and 23rd victory of his career, while it was also a historic milestone for Ducati as they claimed their 1000th podium placement. The battle for the podium went on to the last lap between Razgatlioglu, Scott Redding (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) and Rea. Razgatlioglu made a hard move on Redding at Turn 13, with Redding running a little bit wide and allowing Rea to close in on the BMW rider. At Turn 15, Rea looked to make a move on Redding to move into the podium places but Redding was able to hold on, with Razgatlioglu and Redding completing the podium. Razgatlioglu now has 67 podiums in his WorldSBK career while Redding is on 39, with the British rider going level with Scott Russell at 25th in the all-time list. Places fifth to seventh in Race 1 were taken up by Italian riders. Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) claimed fifth place and finishes as the best Independent rider. In the early stages, Bassani had been running in fourth but was eventually passed by Redding and dropped back from the lead group. He also lost time to Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) in the closing stages but was able to finish a second clear of Locatelli, who in turn had a three second margin over Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) in seventh. Rinaldi had started from third place but lost ground through the opening corners before coming home in seventh place. On his first visit to the Autodrom Most, Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) continued his run of top-ten finishes that has lasted his entire WorldSBK career, with the Spanish rookie finishing in eighth place. It is the best points-scoring streak in WorldSBK since Michael van der Mark scored 19 consecutive points-scoring positions in 2016. He was just over half a second clear of Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) in ninth place with Garrett Gerloff (GYTR GRY Yamaha WorldSBK Team) rounding out the top ten; Gerloff had started from the second row but dropped back at the start of the race. Loris Baz (Bonovo Action BMW) finished in 11th place, four seconds back from a top ten spot, while he was almost ten seconds clear of French compatriot Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) in 12th place. Philipp Oettl (Team Goeleven) finished in 13th place, less than a second behind Mahias, with Luca Bernardi (BARNI Spark Racing Team) in 14th and Xavi Vierge (Team HRC) completing the points-scoring places with 15th. Home hero Oliver Konig (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) finished in 16th place in Race 1 for his home round, his best result in his short WorldSBK career, with Leandro Mercado (MIE Racing Honda Team) in 17th place. Kohta Nozane (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK) claimed 18th place ahead of Eugene Laverty (Bonovo Action BMW), whose future was made known shortly before Race 1, and Christophe Ponsson (Gil Motor Sport-Yamaha) with the Frenchman rounding out the top 20. Roberto Tamburini (Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team), Peter Hickman (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) and Ryan Vickers (TPR Team Pedercini Racing) were the last classified runners in Race 1. Wildcard and home rider Michal Prasek (Rohac & Fejta Motoracing) retired shortly after being lapped by the leaders, while Malaysian rider Hafizh Shyarin (MIE Racing Honda Team) suffered from technical issues in the closing stages of the race.

A titanic battle: Razgatlioglu fights for WorldSBK Race 2 win at Most ahead of Bautista, Rea The top three in the Championship scrapped it out throughout the 22-lap race but it was the reigning Champion who claimed his second win at Most The final MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship race of the Prosecco DOC Czech Round was another incredible affair at the Autodrom Most, with reigning Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) claiming victory after a titanic battle with his title rivals. The battle raged on from the start until the final few laps of the race as Razgatlioglu claimed his fifth win in the last six races. Razgatlioglu was able to get the jump into Turn 1 at the start of the race but was always under pressure from both Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) and Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK). On Lap 7, Rea made a move at Turn 1 on Razgatlioglu to move into the lead of the race but Razgatlioglu at the same corner a lap later. On Lap 11, Bautista attempted to pass both Razgatlioglu and Rea into Turn 1, with Rea coming out ahead of Bautista in second and Razgatlioglu in third. Two laps later and Bautista utilised his straight-line speed to pass Rea into Turn 1, while Razgatlioglu made his move on Rea on Lap 15 at Turn 1 for second place. Soon after, he was on the back of Bautista and, on Lap 16, made his move for the lead at Turn 20 for first place. From there, Razgatlioglu had to defend into Turn 1 on a couple of occasions but he was able to pull out a gap over Bautista and Rea to take his 24th win in WorldSBK and the sixth of the season. Bautista came home in second place to take his 16th podium of the season and the 43rd of his career; while it was also Spain’s 160th in WorldSBK. Rea now has 230 podiums to his name, which is exactly 100 more than Troy Corser who lies second in the all-time list. REDDING VS BASSANI FOR FOURTH: an incredible fight Scott Redding (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) made it five top-six finishes in the last six races as he finished in fourth place after a thrilling battle with Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) in the opening two-thirds of the race. Bassani made a stunning start to immediately fight for the podium places but dropped back to fourth place, before running wide on Lap 5 which allowed Redding through. Bassani was able to respond quite soon after that move but Redding re-passed him at Turn 1 on Lap 10 to demote the Italian into fifth; Bassani claimed three five place finishes at the Autodrom Most. COMPLETING THE TOP TEN: best results in the top ten… Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) claimed sixth place after taking advantage of Garrett Gerloff’s (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) late technical issue, after the American had passed him earlier on in the race. Xavi Vierge (Team HRC) claimed seven place, his best result since he finished fourth in the Tissot Superpole Race at Misano, while Philipp Oettl (Team Goeleven) finished eighth. That is the German’s best result since he took seventh place in the Superpole Race at Assen. It was Lucas Mahias’ (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) best finish of the 2022 season with his second appearance in the top ten, while Sammarinese rider Luca Bernardi (BARNI Spark Racing Team) rounded out the top ten. It is Bernardi’s first top ten result since he moved into WorldSBK at the start of the 2022 season. FINISHING IN THE POINTS: rounding out Most with points Italian rider Roberto Tamburni (Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team) equalled his best result of the season with 11th place, ahead of Malaysia’s Hafizh Syahrin (MIE Racing Honda Team). Syahrin claimed the best result of his WorldSBK career with 12th place and it was a double points-scoring race for the MIE Racing Honda Team with Leandro Mercado in 15th; Kohta Nozane (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) and Peter Hickman (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) separating the two MIE Honda teammates in 13th and 14th. TO NOTE: housekeeping from Race 2 Czech rider Oliver Konig (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) bounced back from a Superpole Race crash to finish in 16th place in front of his home fans, equalling his best result in WorldSBK, with Ryan Vickers (TPR Team Pedercini Racing) in 17th and Gerloff in 18th after his late technical issue. Ahead of Race 2, Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) and Eugene Laverty (Bonovo Action BMW) were both declared unfit through illness and injury respectively. Wildcard Michal Prasel (Rohac & Fejta Motoracing) did not start the race. At the start of Lap 4, Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) crashed out trying to pass Rea for third place at Turn 1. Loris Baz (Bonovo Action BMW) retired from the race following a Lap 5 crash at Turn 20. Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) had a technical issue with two laps to go with the Spanish rookie retiring from the race, ending his streak of top-ten finishes at 17 races.

Aegerter banned from Race 2 at Most due to unsporting behaviour Having previously been declared unfit, further clarification, an admission of simulation and further medical assessments, the WorldSSP Championship leader will not take part in Sunday’s Race 2 Following a Race 1 crash for Dominique Aegerter in the FIM Supersport World Championship on Saturday afternoon, he was declared unfit with suspected concussion, as ruled by the medical team. However, after further medical assessments and an FIM Stewards investigation, clarification needs to be communicated. On Saturday afternoon, Aegerter was rescued on the track and checked by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at the Medical Centre was declared unfit due to the presence of possible concussion symptoms. On Saturday evening, Aegerter went to the Hospital for further assessments and on Sunday morning he admitted the simulation of symptoms to the CMO, and after a deep re-check was declared able to ride. Following a FIM Stewards investigation, FIM Stewards ruled that Aegerter acted in an unsporting manner by simulating a medical situation in order to delay the recovery process and thus force a stoppage of the race by red flag. This is something that the 31-year-old Swiss rider admitted to with a supporting statement, submitted to the FIM Stewards. For his unsporting behaviour, he has been given an immediate one race ban, which means he will not take part in Race 2 at Most. After clarifications of yesterday’s behaviour to the Chief Medical Officer of the circuit and the subsequent further medical assessments and examinations that have been made, it is declared that Dominique Aegerter would have been fit to race but will not take part due to the FIM Stewards’ ruling. Must’ve learnt this trick from Fred Merkel at Mallory park race of year, years back when Flying Fred stayed on the floor bringing out red flags, immediately jumping up after race stopped and scooping the trophy from a dismayed Roger Marshall. Not sporting and thankfully rare.
