What next? A 'Live Axle' rear-end?

I think the big question this weekend is this, can the mercs up their game. Personally I think that somewhere in that silver car there's a very quick race car. But their engineering and design by committee has been a total disaster. In the last 10 years they never had a great aero car, but they had a good one. But in those years starting in 2014 they didn't need a great aero car. They only needed a good one as the V6 turbo lump was a minimum of a 1/2 second faster at most of the races. They were so quick in 2014 that they detuned it. Look it up. The info is out there on the web. Well, they don't have that 1/2 second this year. And their aero guys are shit

If you add in the apparent 'control' over the FIA that Toto at least THOUGHT he had they had no reason to make any changes.

And their aero guys are shit Merc's advantages up to the 2021 season were engines, party modes and cubic money, they'd build a so-so cars for the pre season then replace 75% of it before the first race. If a problem cropped up during the season a dog pile of engineers would hammer it out between races. They could always come up with devices that (FRICS, blown wheel rims and DAS) to make up for the car's basic failings. Last year was their first in a while working without a net, and they had to resort to strategic PU penalties the stay the the Bulls. This year they stepped up to bat swinging for the fences with a aggressive design they really didn't have a grasp of and whiffed. James Allison needs to take the hit for showing up to the first tests with a car they had little intention of running afterward, he completely forgot (or ignored) the budget cap and carried on with business and usual thinking he was hiding something special from the others. Now they're thinking about going BACK to the big sidepod, pre-season concept to find some pace, never mind the fact THAT car is 6 races behind the rest, their decision making is shit as well.

so we now have a green ded cow. and a Mclaren with 10 new bits. McLaren is behind the 8 ball. Lets say that the McLaren is a 1/10th or so faster. But with all the new bits they won't really know if one bit a 2/10th faster and another is 1/10th slower. and a couple of 1 hour sessions isn't enough time to figure it all out.

I'm not sure that a lot of fan and press speculation isn't the prevailing case here. Is there really a strong argument yet for ditching the arguably 3rd best package so far?

Just thinking out loud, I'll bet they feel that reducing peak downforce and curing the porpoising will more than made up for by the gains in the corners from here on out.

well, after P2 the mercs are pretty close to the front. I'm waiting to see teds notebook and peter what's his name blog for today. there's got to be some excuse why george is faster that lulu. :-) One thing that peter what's his name gets into is the various times and top speeds the guys do on their runs, long and short runs. I suppose if I paid for the F1 data I could get the same info but that would mean spending money. Which I figure is better spent on Remy Martin. :-) Motorsport.com did say that Leclerc was complaining about tire wear on the mediums in P2.

OMG I hope the Sky team cleans their heads once they remove them from Toto and Lewis' rear end.....
They did the same crap on the Friday at Miami and come Saturday they were all perplexed when everyone else lowered their cars and put 1 second between them and Merc......
Those two practices were plain disgusting with the commentary in the booth.....

Nope, none at all...unless you have a YouTube channel and need the content.
