If the aim of DRS IS to facilitate passing, why restrict it. Detection zones, to my way of thinking, should be within the braking zone for the turn preceding the straight where DRS is to be activated, not on the straight were DRS is to be used.

Exactly. We see lots of DRS on straights & circuits that don't even need it in the first place. It's ridiculous.
