Mat Oxley: Pol E has a stomach bug. “I spent a long time on the toilet this morning.” Too much info Says Honda made progress with front issues. With hard front he can brake and turn v well
Zarco: "Austin is a physical circuit. It gets me anxious. The future? I'm not thinking about it. I don't have a manager who busts my chops. In Ducati, they know what I can do, and I’d like to stay in Pramac

Did Zarco use the front shapeshifter to go fastest in FP2? The bike he used on that run had the front fender designed to hide the mechanism, so it's likely he did use it. And if he did then it must be working well, so don't be surprised if Bagniaia etc follower soonish

Zarco fronts Ducati 1-2, Aleix Espargaro outside top 10 It was a good day for the Italian marque but the World Championship leader has work to do in FP3; Marc Marquez inside top 10 on Day 1 A silky smooth lap at the end of FP2 handed Johann Zarco (Pramac Racing) the number one spot on the timesheets on Day 1 at the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas. The Frenchman’s 2:02.542 was plenty good enough to beat Jack Miller (Ducati Lenovo Team) by 0.247s as Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) picked up P3. Elsewhere, World Championship leader Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) sits outside the top 10 – work to do for the Argentina GP race winner. An intriguing Friday afternoon FP1 table topper Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) was the first rider to stick some fresh soft rear Michelin rubber in with 22 minutes to go, and his time was a 2:03.030 – half a second faster than anyone else. Miller had sat P1 after a flurry of riders set their personal best times in the early stages of the session, including Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing MotoGP™), Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) and Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), but with 20 minutes to go, there was a new benchmark thanks to a certain number 42 Suzuki. Bagnaia went to P2 before Joan Mir made it a Team Suzuki Ecstar 1-2 with four minutes left on Friday. But the red sector times were starting to light up the screen. Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) slotted into P2 as Miller returned to top spot by 0.2s, with Viñales going P4. All of a sudden, it was a leading trio of Ducatis as Zarco set the best time of the day, with Bastianini going P3 behind Miller. However, Quartararo was then up into P3, but the Frenchman was nearly three tenths away from countryman Zarco. And that’s how it stayed by the time all the riders had taken the chequered flag; Zarco fastest from Ducati stablemate Miller and Quartararo. The provisional top 10 Opening night winner Bastianini had a good day at the office to finish P4, the Italian was 0.3s away from Zarco’s pace, with Rins shuffled down to P5 by the end of the session after going early on his soft tyre strategy. Marc Marquez will take P6 all day long on his return to MotoGP™ action, as we witness a happy Viñales at the end of Day 1 – P7 for Top Gun. Mir, after briefly sitting P2, is currently heading into Q2 in P8 ahead of Bagnaia and Jorge Martin (Pramac Racing) – the two GP22 riders round out that all-important top 10. That means Aleix Espargaro has work to do in FP3 if he’s to grab an automatic Q2 place in Austin, the Spaniard misses out by a slender 0.015s. Pol Espargaro (Repsol Honda Team) and Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) – the leading KTM on a tough day for the factory – are the only other riders within a second of Zarco’s scintillating time. Darryn Binder (WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP™ Team) crashed unhurt late on at Turn 11. FP3 will be a fascinating watch. With no rain forecast, conditions should allow for some time improvements to be made. Make sure to tune into that at 09:55 local time (GMT-5) on Saturday morning! Top 10: 1. Johann Zarco (Pramac Racing) – 2:02.542 2. Jack Miller (Ducati Lenovo Team) + 0.247 3. Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) + 0.295 4. Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) + 0.342 5. Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) + 0.488 6. Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) + 0.499 7. Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) + 0.543 8. Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar) + 0.601 9. Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) + 0.645 10. Jorge Martin (Pramac Racing) + 0.813

Mat Oxley: Notice any differences between Pol's two RC213Vs? Bike on left has carbon wings, bike on right has plastic wings. I think they usually keep the carbon wings for the race. Even HRC has to stick to a budget Mir's tyre/rim temperature gauge in the Suzuki garage. Tyre/rim temperature has to the JUST right nowadays

Maiden Moto2 pole for Beaubier on home soil A delighted Cameron Beaubier celebrated his debut Moto2 pole position with American Racing on home soil on Saturday. The 29-year-old will line up at the head of his home race on Sunday after his 2’08.751 lap around the Circuit of the Americas dominated qualifying by over three-tenths. Mooney VR46’s Celestino Vietti secured his place on the front row having journeyed through from Q1 with Aron Canet joining him in Parc Fermé, in third. Qualifying in Texas began with local talent on track as the intermediate class rolled out of the COTA pitlane. Sean Dylan Kelly flying the American Racing flag on his world championship debut in front of his native fans for Q1 with teammate Beaubier and Italtrans Joe Roberts preparing for the Q2 shootout still to come. urrent championship leader Vietti joined the early fight as he topped the initial times on the Mooney VR46 before quickly advancing the 2’10 pace with his next laps to sit half a second clear at the halfway stage. Simone Corsi was the first to fall, at turn ten on a personal best, with RW Racing’s Barry Baltus and Zonta van den Goorbergh leading VR46 Master Camp’s Manual Gonzalez in the top four ahead of the final runs. Five minutes to go and the standings shuffled as MV Agusta’s Marcos Ramirez hit the top on a 2’10.154 from Liqui Moly’s Jeremy Alcoba and Filip Salac on the Gresini with Pertamina SAG’s Bo Bendsneyder demoting Vietti out of the promotion zone. The Italian struck back with just over a minute left on the clock as he crossed the line on 2’09.927 pace, yellow flags flying in sector three as Salac crashed out at turn 12. Bendsneyder was the next to fly as he beat Vietti’s time by just over a tenth, the VR46 rider improving his pace as he consolidated second, just 0.016s shy, as the chequered flag dropped. Ramirez and Alcoba completing the final promotees. Beaubier and Roberts were the first out as Q2 fired up. The former heading back to the pits without setting a time two laps later while Navarro was seen dawdling on track as he waited for a tow. The Flexbox rider already facing a long lap penalty for Sunday’s race after crashing under yellow flags in FP3. As the initial laps registered, Vietti took charge. Red Bull’s Augusto Fernandez crashing out at turn 17 on his first flying lap. Honda Team Asia’s Ai Ogura headed Roberts on the provisional front row with Sam Lowes striking for fourth. His Elf Marc VDS teammate Tony Arbolino lost the front at turn eight with Ogura the next to crash at turn 11 as his Honda machine lay in the middle of the racing line with five minutes to go. Beaubier staked his claim on a front row place with a 2’09.847 lap, just Aron Canet and Vietti ahead, before Arbolino recovered to demote him on his way to second. The Californian was far from done however as he took provisional pole with a 2’08.751, to the delight of his American Racing team. A crash for Canet at turn 17 brought out the yellows in the final sector with just one minute to go, Arbolino’s time disappearing due to the previous flags. With the clock at zero the dream was realised as Beaubier secured pole position in front of the home crowd. Vietti and Canet completed the front row as a late effort from the determined Arbolino returned him to fourth. Aspar’s Albert Arenas and Jake Dixon sat fifth and sixth ahead of Navarro, Fermín Aldeguer and Lowes with Pedro Acosta rounding out the top ten for KTM. Ogura, Bendsneyder, Schrotter, Ramirez and Alcoba claimed 11th to 15th with a disappointed Roberts heading row six from Chantra and the fallen Fernandez.
