Hamilton was desperate to have an advantage over his teammate and over the rest of the field, desperate for pole. And Mercedes is desperate for championship points ys RB.
Sometimes the team takes it too far and they get caught.

Of course the weekend I have to work all hell breaks loose. Same. And not only do I have to work, I am away doing training so I have to wait and watch everything when I get home. Ugh. I'm in Florida for the week and can only get ESPN2 for the race on Sunday.

Another point of interest is that by rule Mercedes needs to replace Lewis’ faulty wing with the same spec. Will the new wing past post race inspection?. Impossible - the new wing must fail, if it is to be the SAME SPEC.

Note that Max couldn't ascertain anything from his touching of Hamilton's wing because the issue was only when it was fully open. If you read the document it is asserted and accepted that this was an error and not intentional on Merc's part. Probably better that this happened to Merc at this point rather than in a normal quali DQ that impacts the race. At least in the sprint he has a chance of making up some spots for a better starting position in the race. Should be interesting! Weird how people here are calling Hamilton a cheater, like he built and assembled the wing. Michael Schumacher got it and he didn't build anything other than a legacy.

Damn, Hamilton sucks without that out-of-spec rear wing.
Alonso didn't look like a hero today, either.

I really enjoyed how quickly the Brit pundits turned this into the Conquering Hero story, instead of the Merc Team cheating story. We win as a team, lose as a team and Cheat as a Team.

I'm feeling nauseous after suffering through this Lewis love-fest from the fawning flock of Sky announcers.

Sometimes the team takes it too far and they get caught. The fact that they've admitted they're changing engines because the (usual) power loss over 7 races is too great for them to catch up to RB with says it all.
